Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Won’t Feature 1 Original Movie Character, New Report Confirms

Summary

  • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, featuring a star-studded cast, takes place years after the original movie, with a new, intriguing storyline.
  • The official synopsis teases a dark family tragedy and a mysterious model that could link to the returning ghostly characters.
  • While Baldwin and Davis may not make a full return, the original model hints at a possible cameo appearance in the sequel.

The official synopsis for cast of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice include Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz.

Along with the Beetlejuice sequel’s recent trailer, Warner Bros. also released an official synopsis that confirms how Keaton’s character will return. Explaining that the Deetz family returns to the township of Winter River following a family tragedy, Ortega’s character discovers the model from the first movie in the attic of her family’s old home. Check out the official synopsis below:

Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.

Could The Beetlejuice 2 Synopsis Hint At Another Surprise Return?

Originally designed and built by Adam Maitland, the model Ortega’s character finds bears a direct, and deeply emotional, link to the home’s deceased former residents.

The lead-up to the sequel has raised many questions about what happened to the spirits of Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara Maitland (Geena Davis). While the original Beetlejuice ending saw the Deetz family residing peacefully alongside their home’s resident ghosts in Winter River, the sequel’s synopsis would suggest it has been some time since either Lydia or her stepmother, Delia, had stepped foot in the house.

Beetlejuice 2 Ignoring Geena Davis & Alec Baldwin Just Got Way More Difficult

The first trailer and images for Beetlejuice 2 include subtle details that make the sequel ignoring Adam and Barbara Maitland impossible.

Despite Tim Burton managing to lure both O’Hara and Ryder back to reprise their respective roles, neither Baldwin’s nor Davis’ characters are expected to return. While this may easily be explained away by the pair eventually finding peace in the Afterlife, the importance being placed on the Maitland’s original model could hint at a possible cameo appearance from one or both characters. Originally designed and built by Adam Maitland, the model Ortega’s character finds bears a direct, and deeply emotional, link to the home’s deceased former residents.

While the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice synopsis may hint at the model being responsible for allowing Keaton’s ghost to return, it could also potentially allow the Maitlands to make their way back from the Afterlife. After all, given their previous experience with the mischievous “bio-exorcist”, they would probably be the best placed to advise on how to handle his uncontrollable antics. Whether such an appearance will eventuate remains to be seen, but even featuring Maitland’s model immediately serves to bring their characters back to audiences' minds.
