Some games suffer from a rough launch and eventually disappear, never to be heard from again. But Fallout 76, just like Final Fantasy XVI1.0 and No Man's Sky, rose out of the ashes of a disastrous start and became something greater. Fallout is predominantly a science fiction franchise, exploring a world devastated by nuclear war and the vestiges of humanity trying to survive in the wasteland. But for all of Fallout's heavy topics and themes, the series frequently gets wacky and outlandish with its lore and the creatures that inhabit post-nuclear America. There are aliens abducting characters, robots with comically lethal designs, and, in the early games, extremely direct references to other franchises like Dr. Who.

I won't lie and say that I've always loved Fallout 76. At launch, I jumped on the frankly well-argued bandwagon and hated Fallout 76 despite never playing it. Later, after many updates, I finally tried it - purely out of a lack of other co-op games to play with my sibling - and enjoyed my time a lot until a bug caused me to lose all of my progress and, more importantly, saved images of our journey together. I then came back once more in 2020 when Bethesda finally added NPCs, but I struggled to convince myself it was time well spent.

Developers for Dune: Awakening can look to the initial failures and eventual successes of another major game in the space, Fallout 76, as an example. While it would seem these massive franchises have equally massive built-in audiences, it turns out things are slightly more complicated than that and these MMOs cannot rely on name recognition alone.

The Milepost Zero update to Fallout 76 made some tweaks to the game and added several features. Among these was the ability to share and feature player-created CAMPs. Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform, known simply as CAMPs in the game, are portable -created home bases. Their primary function is to serve as a space to build, repair, and recoup.

Mole Miners are a unique type of mutant roaming the wastes of Fallout 76. These residents of underground Appalachia are similar to ghouls in that while they maintain intelligence, they attack sight (save for Fallout 76's Purveyor). Legendary mods are the newest addition to Fallout 76 and something that can allow you to take a regular weapon and turn it into a legendary one. This is done mostly through a process of scrapping and crafting, and players will want to use their new mods as soon as possible. Upon leaving the vault at the beginning of Fallout 76, players should first and foremost look for side quests to start immediately in their adventures as a new Wastelander. With so many threats lurking about and with such little on your back, progressing quests early on will help you make allies quickly and obtain useful weapons, gear, and other necessary items to help you survive.

Many quests in the Fallout franchise, including those within Fallout 76, have players teaming up with particular factions, where they must make certain choices regarding NPCs. This is especially true when it comes to the Brotherhood of Steel, as two Brotherhood knights, Paladin Ramahni and Knight Shin turn to the player to put a stop to their dispute by dragging them in the middle, demanding that they pick a side.
