The Batman: Arkham series deserves far better treatment than it has recently been receiving. Most are aware by now that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has failed to impress both critics and players alike. Repetitive gameplay and microtransactions aside, its cringe-inducing story was an additional disappointment. For some, Suicide Squad has missed its mark so drastically that it should not even be considered canon alongside the celebrated games that came before it. Player counts on Steam have remained at rock bottom, and even the recently released Joker DLC has failed to make a considerable difference in public interest. 194p52

The CW is officially bringing the Gotham KnightsTV show to the air. Originally announced by The CW in December 2021, Gotham Knights' production has wrapped. With a pilot episode ordered in February 2022, The CW officially picked up Gotham Knights in May 2022 and has continued to forge ahead with production even amid the well-publicized troubles of the Arrowverse. As the name implies, the Gotham Knights TV show will be based on a team of Gotham-based heroes, though the most iconic, Batman, isn't included as this takes place after he has ed away.

Since the release of Gotham Knights on Oct 21st, 2022, it's become clear that WB Games Montrealincluded several minute details that are very easy to miss on the first few playthroughs. The game is set in Gotham City after the lethal ambush of Batman, and it follows the heroic exploits of Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood as Ra's Al Ghul, Harley Quinn, and others terrorize the city. Although Batman is absent for most of the game, he leaves a lasting detective legacy behind with his case files to help the Gotham Knights follow in his footsteps and deliver swift justice.

Warner Bros. Montreal, the developer behind Gotham Knights, has supposedly begun work on a secretive project - one that should shy away from another Batman-centric video game if set within the DC Universe. Gotham Knights is a very different kind of Batman game, in that its narrative imagines a Gotham in the aftermath of the death of the Caped Crusader. Gotham Knights is still a Batman game, however, and the next DC title from Warner Bros. Montreal needs to move on and focus on other DC stories.

Gotham Knightsrecently released to mixed reviews, but hardcore fans are enjoying traveling across the fabled comic book city, defending it from the worst criminals in the DC Universe. The Rocksteady title has a lot of potential, but there were a few missed opportunities that could have been capitalized on further.

While games like Gotham Knightsand the Batman: Arkhamseries manage to capture the feeling of being the Dark Knight, these titles have failed to create a believable and authentic cape. The Caped Crusader is known for his long flowing cape, which adds to the master vigilante's mysticism and intimidating presence. Batman's cape plays a key role in various video games, but its true grandeur has not yet been translated into an interactive experience.

While Gotham Knightsattempted to deliver an experience worthy of the Batman: Arkhamfranchise, the Marvel's Spider-Manseries is still a more worthy follow-up to Rocksteady's trilogy. The beloved Arkham series delved deep into the Dark Knight's mythology to create an ideal and interactive version of Gotham and its denizens. Gotham Knights tried to push that formula further using a cast of young sidekicks, but Marvel's Spider-Man managed to be even more faithful to the Arkham legacy.

Batgirl plays a prominent role in both Gotham Knightsand the Batman: Arkhamseries, but one version of Barbara Gordon is much deeper and more unique to control than the other. Rocksteady's epic trilogy of Batman games features a range of heroic ing characters, including Barbara Gordon as Oracle and the always jovial Nightwing. However, Gotham Knights focuses on these sidekicks much more closely as they step up to defend Gotham following the Dark Knight's death. Batgirl is a playable hero in both series, but one title does the heroine more justice than the other.

Gotham Knights wrapped up its story with many threads still dangling, and the potential for Gotham Knights 2, from technical improvements to story expansions, is too big to ignore. From villains still roaming free to the Knights still being relatively new to being Gotham City's sole protectors, there are many elements from Gotham Knights that a sequel could pick up on and run with. The framerate caps and co-op limits that hounded the game's release could be removed and reworked, providing plenty of fodder for a truly fantastic sequel.

The cooperative DC anti-hero shooter Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguecan learn a lot from the recently released co-op superhero simulator Gotham Knights. The open-world adventure sees four of Batman's former sidekicks step up to defend Gotham following the untimely death of the Caped Crusader. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will also cast players as four iconic DC characters, though they're far less heroic, and the game should take the successes and failings of Gotham Knights to heart.
