Netflix has officially given a series order to a live-action Scooby-Doo TV show, and with the new development comes information concerning its story, which now makes the production more intriguing than ever to me.The untitled series was first announced in April 2024. However, Netflix didn't confirm it until almost a year later, and its premiere date is unknown as of the writing of this article. The streaming service hasn't even unveiled the cast yet (if the actors for the iconic Scooby-Doo characters — Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Fred — have been selected).

Scooby-Doo will be returning to live-action in a new Netflix series. The franchise, which follows a group of teenagers and their talking dog solving mysteries, began as a Hanna-Barbera animated series in 1969 and has since grown into a massive multimedia franchise. In addition to more than a dozen Scooby-Doo TV shows, the franchise includes two live-action movies from the early 2000s starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Linda Cardellini, and Matthew Lillard (who has since reprised his role as Shaggy in a wide variety of animated properties).

When people think of the best zombie media, their minds often jump straight to Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead—a best-selling comic series and critically acclaimed TV show; but they shouldn’t be so quick to overlook Scooby-Doo. That’s right—everyone’s favorite talking dog has his own top-tier zombie series. And no, we’re not talking about Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (though that movie is undeniably a masterpiece).

There have been countless iterations of Scooby-Doo throughout the years, both cartoon and live-action, featuring crossovers with properties ranging from superheroes to rock stars. There's very little Mystery Inc. hasn't done or seen, yet its latest planned series is set to take Scooby and Shaggy on an adventure that will be entirely new to a franchise spanning over 50 years of releases. The Go-Go Mystery Machine, which was originally teased in June 2024, is taking the iconic duo to Japan, and will feature a heavily anime-inspired art-style.

Since its debut in 1969, Hanna-Barbera's iconic Saturday-morning cartoon franchise, Scooby-Doo, has been one of the most iconic kids' properties of all time. Spilling over into comics, live-action movies, games, and more, it has maintained the love and respect of audiences for generations since its debut. Telling the story of a gang of mystery-solving kids, the series has delivered a range of entertaining and lovable characters.

Scooby-Doo should look to its best outing and recent failures to succeed with its live-action series. The Scooby-Doo live-action series was announced in April 2024, promising the next inevitable return of a franchise beloved since 1969. Hanna Barbera's '60s show empowered kids with its finger on the pulse of culture at the time, amusing children and winning the acceptance of their parents. Since then, the story has been reinvented numerous times, with some versions more successful than others. Velma may be Scooby-Doo's least successful venture, and the series should note why it flopped.

At least, until the latest Scooby-Doo crossover event, which has just traumatized Scooby and Shaggy with the sight of an actual gory murder - and I did not have that on my 2024 bingo card.
