Apple included in its Messages app. Lasers and fireworks can appear on an iPhone along with matching sounds and vibrations to create extra impact. With an iPhone capable of doing so much more, messages don't have to be restricted to just text, emoji, and photos.

The iPhone has a special feature that can't be seen but is definitely felt. Known as haptics, Apple has one of the most advanced smartphone vibration systems for providing to a about some action that's taking place. This is similar to the rumble of a game controller when crashing a car or winning a reward. On an iPhone, haptics are used for daily activities, such as unlocking the phone, flipping a switch, or enhancing a special effect in an iMessage.

Apple's Normally a tap of the up arrow sends a message, but to send with a special effect, press and hold the send button. This will open a window with a Bubble tab and a Screen tab. The Screen tab is where the Laser and Fireworks effects can be found. There are several different effects to choose from, and swiping left and right shows a preview of how it will look. The full effect, including any sounds and haptics, won't be experienced until the message is sent which is done by tapping the arrow after selecting the preferred effect.

There are currently eight Screen effects, including 'Echo,' 'Spotlight,' 'Balloons,' 'Confetti,' 'Love,' 'Lasers,' 'Fireworks,' and 'Celebration.' The last effect looks a bit like a sparkler shooting out glowing embers from the corner. Several effects have sounds and haptics and are quite impressive, while some are automatically triggered by the text entered. For example, 'pew pew' activates the Lasers effect and 'Happy New Year' sets off the Fireworks display.

For occasions when a less dramatic effect is called for there are also Bubble effects that animate the message in a subtler way. The effects include 'Invisible Ink,' 'Gentle,' 'Loud,' and 'Slam.' The last three have varying amounts of animation to draw the eye, from a subtle movement to a jiggling and flying-in effect. Invisible ink hides the contents until it is tapped, making it both fun and a bit like a secret message. These fun effects are part of what sets iPhone iMessages apart from SMS texts.
