Fans have been eagerly awaiting Jujutsu Kaisen season three ever since the anime's second season concluded on December 28, 2023, over a year ago. Many people speculated that the next installment in the anime would release sometime in 2025, but unfortunately, that possibility no longer seems likely.

Right after Jujutsu Kaisen season two's release, a third season was confirmed, but no further information has been revealed since that time. Considering the lack of updates and packed schedule MAPPA has coming up in 2025, it's safe to say that Jujutsu Kaisen season three will not debut until spring 2026 at the earliest.

Mappa Has a Packed 2025 Schedule, Suggesting That Jujutsu Kaisen Will Be Delayed Even Longer

Jujutsu Kaisen season three's initial announcement delighted fans. However, since that information was unveiled, no official release date or release window has been announced, leaving viewers wondering what is coming next in the franchise. MAPPA has a lengthy list of series slated for 2025, so it is unlikely that there will be any time left in the schedule for Jujutsu Kaisen, or ample time for animators to create the third season. The MAPPA anime series that will debut in 2025 are Lazarus, an all-new series, and the second season of Dorohedoro, which received its first anime season back in January 2020.

As far as films go, MAPPA also plans to release a Zombie Land Saga movie, The Rose of Versailles, and the very highly anticipated Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc. Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc is long overdue, since the anime has only released one season thus far, back in October 2022. A trailer for the film is already available, revealing that the movie will cover the Bomb Girl arc of the Chainsaw Man manga, which takes place between chapters #40 and #52. Although the Chainsaw Man movie will undoubtedly be a hit, its imminent 2025 release spells bad news for Jujutsu Kaisen.

A Later Release Date Gives MAPPA Animators More Time to Truly Do the Culling Game Arc Justice

The Chainsaw Man movie was announced back in 2024 during Jump Festa, so the news that it is finally coming out this year is fantastic. However, this many major MAPPA releases means that Jujutsu Kaisen will more than likely be pushed back until 2026. In the past, MAPPA employees have spoken out about MAPPA's toxic work environment conditions, explaining that when too many series are released around the same time, it places unnecessary pressure on the staff working on those animes. Since MAPPA has openly committed to improving the workplace, Jujutsu Kaisen season three will likely not be rushed.

Although it may be disappointing to have to wait another additional year for Jujutsu Kaisen's third season, the finished product will be even more impressive if enough time is allotted for the staff to devote to the project without feeling hurried by tight deadlines. Jujutsu Kaisen season two was an absolute masterpiece, winning numerous awards, and it will be difficult to top its success. The Culling Game arc of the manga is one of the most fast-paced and gory, taking the story of Jujutsu Kaisen to a darker, deeper level, so the anime should not be rushed in order to do this pivotal arc justice.
