Warning! Contains a preview for Moon Knight #12
In a new preview for Marvel Comics' Black Panther's ancestral plane reserved for Khonshu's Fists of Justice. While the Djalia is a space of peace where Wakanda's collective memory resides along with the spirits of past Black Panthers, Moon Knight's version is downright horrifying. Traveling through Khonshu's newly revealed realm, it seems Marc Spector has just learned what his fate will be when he dies.
In previous issues of Moon Knight from Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio, Marc Spector and his allies have been battling the new Moon Knight villain Zodiac. However, Zodiac has dark friends of his own who managed to distract the Fist of Justice in order for Zodiac to attack Spector's neighborhood and Midnight Mission during his absence. Praying to Khonshu against his better judgment, Marc's god has granted him and Tigra age through the god's dark realm to get back to the Mission before it's too late.
Now, the new preview for Moon Knight #12 sees Marc and Tigra running as fast as they can through this otherworldly realm, evading monstrous spirits of past Fists who served Khonshu before he chose Marc Spector. However, the whole idea of Moon Knight having his own horrifying version of Black Panther's ancestral plane is surprising news to Marc. Here are the preview pages and synopsis for the issue:
MOON KNIGHT #12- THE KILLING TIME, PART TWO It all comes down to this: Moon Knight vs. Zodiac in the final struggle for Marc Spector's soul in the Battle of the Midnight Mission.
While Zodiac and Moon Knight reaching their final showdown is exciting, the reveal that Marc Spector had no idea about Khonshu's dark realm and the spirits of past Moon Knights is huge. Is this Marc Spector's fate as a Fist of Justice whenever he eventually dies? Is he sent to this realm only if he dies in battle serving Khonshu? The ancestors of Black Panther live in relative peace in the Wakandan ancestral plane. In contrast, these past Moon Knights look far more monstrous, consigned to defend Khonshu's realm from those intruding upon their eternal rest.
Given the amount of past Moon Knights pursuing Marc and Tigra, it does seem as though ing them will be the inevitable fate of Khonshu's current avatar, a dark mirror of Black Panther's afterlife. Likewise, Spector probably doesn't get a say one way or the other given his years of service to the Egyptian moon god. As such, one has to wonder what kind of conversation Moon Knight might have with his god when the full Moon Knight #12 releases on June 22nd.
