Who’s to say how Michael Scott from Michael’s management style is outrageous and almost never backed by logic, and he has done some serious out-of-line stuff during his time as a regional manager.
That's not to mention the culture of casual sexism and favoritism that he allowed within Dunder Mifflin. But there are times when Michael went too far, even by his own standards. Let’s have a look at some of these instances.
When He Asked Dwight To Spy On Oscar
Michael has crossed many lines as a regional manager and has also abused his power many a times and for very petty reasons. During an inventory which happened to fall on a Friday Oscar called in sick which led Michael and Dwight to believe that Oscar just wants a long weekend. This alone is quite preposterous and unreasonable considering Oscar had not given Michael any reason to believe that he is unprofessional. To make matters worse, Michael sent in Dwight to actually investigate if Oscar is really sick which is not just inappropriate but also really sketchy and disrespectful.
When He Framed Toby
Michael has been really nasty to Toby ever since he has known him and the weirdest thing is that it's just a tad inconsistent with his character especially since fans could never figure out the reason for this hostility. Michael even tried to frame Toby for drug possession. When Toby gets back from Costa Rica, Michael can't cope with his return and actually plants Caprese salad in Toby's desk because be thought that was marijuana (which is hilarious). He then calls the cops on him and tries to frame him which was one of the worst things he has ever done
When He Mailed Jan's Topless Photos To Everyone
Michael and Jan's relationship did not start on the right foot and Michael especially is not someone who can be discreet. When Michael and Jan return from their hush-hush vacation to Sandals, Jamaica Michael tries to send a photo of a topless, sunbathing Jan to his friend Packer but instead mails the packaging unit and the photo gets circulated widely. But it's very hard to feel sympathy for Michael because his sole intention was to brag about his and Jan's relationship and sending the picture to the obnoxious Packer was a really poor idea
When He Hired A Stripper In The Office
For Phyllis and Bob's bachelor party Michael decides to hire a stripper to have a show at Dunder Mifflin which is really inappropriate and definitely breaks some major corporate rules. But what's really bad is that he never takes permission from anyone else or checks to see if it would make anyone uncomfortable.
Which was in fact the case, during the strip tease everyone looked quite embarrassed and they were clearly not on board with the idea. Even Michael himself hadn't anticipated how weird and unprofessional this is before the show began and he was visibly mortified.
When He Held A Minor Pizza Guy Hostage
Michael has a long history of not channeling his anger in the right direction. When he's worked up or angry he usually makes everyone else miserable too and that's what made him a bad leader. During the Dunder Mifflin Infinity launch party he felt overshadowed by Ryan and also felt insecure about his job and role and actually lashed out at a pizza delivery guy. When the delivery guy refused to give him him a discount because of a company policy he actually holds him hostage, essentially kidnapping him and doesn't let him leave the office until he has budged on the discounts!
When He Outed Oscar
Many fans of the show could believe how a grown man in his early 40s could be so clueless about how sexuality works. It's bizarre that Jan had to fly down to Scranton just to explain to Michael what was wrong with his joke and his treatment of Oscar.
Even after Michael talked to Jan he brought up the issue of Oscar's homosexuality in front of the entire office without even checking if Oscar was okay with it or planning to come out of the closet.
His Casual Sexism Towards Pam
Michael has made many sexist comments to his employees but he has been especially inappropriate towards Pam, often asking her for weird favors. that time when Michael asked her to put on a bra just so he could teach his future son how to take off a bra in a video? Or when he asked her if she would consider going to Jamaica with him on Christmas? Or when he asked her if she would consider getting married to him if they're both single in thirty years?
When He Told Other Branch Managers About His Fling With Jan
During a meeting Michael tells his fellow regional managers that he has had a physical relationship with Jan. It was especially embarrassing for Jan because she was Michael's superior and they had just gotten a new CFO who heard about Michael's revelation which made things super messy.
The worst thing about the fiasco is that Michael let out the secret simply to boast about how close he is to his superior, and not for a legitimate reason. He did not take into consideration how this would affect Jan.
When He Revealed Jim’s Feelings For Pam To Everyone
It’s bizarre that most of Michael’s missteps are simply an attempt of him trying to prove that he’s cool and ‘in demand.’ For instance, when he revealed to the entire office that Jim had a crush on Pam, he was simply trying to prove how close he and Jim were, and there was no legitimate reason for him to spill the beans on such a sensitive issues. What’s even more astounding is that Jim told this to Michael in the strictest of confidence, and had practically begged for him to keep quiet.
When He Went Undercover To Utica
when Michael and Dwight kidnapped Jim to go undercover to Utica branch, after Stanley reveals that he’s leaving the Scranton branch to go work for Karen in Utica? What the fans found shocking is that Michael had no plan in place before pulling something so unprofessional and outrageous. He simply dressed up as a janitor and landed in Utica to sabotage Karen in some way or the other, or maybe to poach one of her employees, nevertheless it was completely out of line.
