Acclaimed writer-director Bong Joon-ho began working on two new scripts before his satirical thriller Parasite won big at the 2020 Oscars, and he recently confirmed that he's finished one of them. Parasite became the first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, and it also nabbed statues for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. In 2019, Bong told Variety that he was working on two follow-ups to Parasite. The first is a Korean-language project that takes place in Seoul and combines elements of horror and action and the second is an English-language drama set partially in the U.S. and partially in the U.K. that chronicles a true 2016 event.

Bong clearly doesn't seem to be taking too much time to bask in the glory of Parasite's success. During a recent episode of the podcast Knives Out director Rian Johnson that the scripts he's been working on are pulling his brain in two different directions. He revealed that he recently completed one of the two screenplays, although he didn't specify which one. Check out Bong's quote as well as the full podcast below:

"It feels like I’m splitting my brain in half left and right writing these two scripts. But I finished one last week."

It really doesn't matter which script Bong is referring to because both concepts sound intriguing. The bottom line is fans can expect a new Bong Joon-ho film - likely another genre-bending nail-biter - relatively soon if all goes to plan, which is certainly something to celebrate. Hopefully, casting news and plot details will emerge sometime later this year if not in the next few months.
