Releasing last week, Star Wars: Squadrons is a combat flight simulation with various multiplayer features and a story mode. The game features many fan-favorite ships, as well as newer ones introduced in the Disney-era canon. One of these newer ships is the Mark I Starhawk-class Battleship, which was important in helping the New Republic bring down the remnants of the Galactic Empire after the events of Return of the Jedi.

The Starhawk battleships were first introduced in the at the Nadiri Dockyards during the time of Star Wars: Squadrons.

The first three Starhawk-class battleships were called the Amity, the Unity, and the Concord. The battleships were created from salvaged and disassembled parts of Imperial Star Destroyers. Because of this, they were incredible powerful and heavily armored. In the new Disney-era canon, the Starhawk battleships were very important, as they allowed the fledgling New Republic to taken on the Empire's best ships head-on.

Why The Starhawk Battleships Are Important In Star Wars

In addition to being an important asset to the New Republic in Star Wars, the Starhawk battleships are notable for being some of the first new ships built after the Battle of Endor. The Starhawks were constructed in secret after the events of Return of the Jedi in the Nadiri Dockyards, which is shown onscreen for the first time in Star Wars: Squadrons.

The Starhawk battleships were incredibly powerful, as they had ten times the tractor beam array of an Imperial Star Destroyer's. The ships were also fitted with ion cannons, deflector shields, and durasteel armor. The first Starhawk battleship, the Concord, is especially important to Star Wars. During the Battle of Jakku, the Concord and her crew sacrificed themselves to bring down the Super Star Destroyer Ravager. This caused the New Republic to win the Battle of Jakku, which is canonically considered the last major battle of the Galactic Civil War. iral Rae Sloane and the other Imperial survivors who escaped went on to form the First Order later on.

Although the Starhawk-class battleships are fairly new to the Star Wars canon, they played a vital role in the Galactic Civil War. In Star Wars: Squadrons, players get to see a bit of that history at the Nadiri Dockyards, where the vessels were constructed. If the game gets a sequel, maybe players can even fly a Starhawk battleship next time.
