Sequim is a nice, small homey town of about 7000 people,” Mike Youngquist said to describe his hometown in season seven. However, his fiancée Natalie Mordovtseva later compared it to a horror movie. But does Mike’s Sequim really have the scary roads, the constantly cold weather, and the houses straight out of thrillers, as Natalie described on the show? Absolutely not. In fact, 90 Day Fiancé star Mike’s Sequim is, in fact, quite sunny, and a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and lavender lovers in western Washington.

In his first episode on season seven of 90 Day Fiancé, Mike revealed how his family had been staying in Sequim for about 130 years. Since his childhood, Mike was a regular at the 27-acre tree farm and wasted no time in buying it off his father when it was put up for sale. The deal was costly for for Mike and Natalie’s turbulent plot, with her claiming the house was a trailer, and the town always cold. However, Mike’s gameplan to take Natalie for a drive to town did make her change her opinion about Sequim. She said, “During the day it looks not that scary.” Still, Mike’s statement about the “woods never ending” might have scared the Ukrainian 90 Day Fiancé star. While Mike may not have been the best tour guide, here’s a quick look at Sequim’s small-town charm.

Pronounced as “squim,” the City of Sequim is located along the State Route Highway 101, which gives exclusive access to the Olympic National Park, Olympic National Forest, and British Columbia. Unlike the ghost-town shown during Mike and Natalie’s fights in 90 Day Fiancé, the city does get tourists who are interested in Sequim’s natural surroundings, recreational activities, quaint downtown, and the Sequim Lavender Weekend. According to the official tourism website, Mike’s city is a “natural place to stop” for visitors who look forward to enjoying the Olympic Peninsula due to its central location. Interestingly, Sequim is also called the “banana belt” of Western Washinton because it has the best weather with few rainy days and lots of sun. Perhaps Natalie simply chose the wrong time to visit.

Although 90 Day Fiancé’s Mike may not have mentioned it, Sequim is also the lavender capital of North America with local lavender farms that contribute to tourism. As mentioned by WanderingWithWonder, Sequim is ideal for outdoor lovers and perfect for hikes through old-growth forests, playing golf, and biking or walking the Olympic Discovery Trail. Similarly, fishing, kayaking, foraging, and berry picking are also popular pastimes. While Sequim serves the world on a plate with cuisines such as Thai, Italian, and Mexican readily available, seafood seems to be a specialty, with the area being known for fresh Dungeness Crab. The local farms offer a fresh take on farm to table concepts, but Sequim is also home to gourmet coffee shops, casual diners, exciting pubs, and romantic cafes. Natalie could certainly find things to keep her busy and give her complaints a rest.

The strangest part though how Natalie found out about the Snoqualmie waterfalls, but failed to read about the activities that would give her “action” in small-town Sequim. But now that news of the 90 Day Fiancé couple being married is being reported, maybe Mike’s city slicker Natalie did make a home out of Sequim after all.
