Reality TV shows and relationships don’t always reap great results and that holds true for binge-watching favorite, 90 Day Fiancé has given some epic “oh, no they didn’t” moments to date, including the season 2 that got six new spouses-to-be stateside. So, what’s happened to these TLC couples since the camera stopped rolling six years ago?
90 Day Fiancé’s premise is pretty simple. But the relationships between most of its couples, the complete opposite. With many of the couples never having met before, the first face-to-face encounters that lead up to the aisle, most of the time, don’t fare too well. Season 1 of the reality show turned out to be full of promise, and it did deliver with couples who are still together in 2020. However, season 2 of 90 Day Fiancé carried with it a chock-a-block of controversies. And one might be surprised to know how the six pairs have fared six years since their 90 Day Fiancé stints.
Chelsea Macek and Yamir Castillo
Nicaraguan popstar Yamir left his promising boyband career with Myla Vox to be with Galesburg, Illinois’ Chelsea. The couple got married, but Yamir missed his music and mailed his demo tapes to Chicago producers. It looked like Yamir moving to Windy City had caused him to break-up with Chelsea. However, it was her realizing that she was queer which led to this 90 Day Fiancé divorce. Yamir claimed to be “still friends” in an Instagram post a few years later, but Chelsea had moved on – first with a woman, and now has a new man. Yamir meanwhile, has a green card and works on promoting his new music and physique.
Danielle Mullins and Mohamed Jbali
Predictably, Norwalk, Ohio’s Danielle, and Tunisia’s Mohamed are no longer together. Infamous for being the first-ever train-wreck of 90 Day Fiancé, Danielle and Mohamed gave fans truckloads of drama. Their large age gap, zero chemistry, and Danielle’s credit card frauds contributed to the Tunisian biding bye-bye to her right after the credits rolled. Now in Miami, Mohamed made merry with a female friend, which irked Danielle who’d paid for his coveted K-1 visa. The controversial couple returned for season 2 of Last heard the 90 Day Fiancé couple had recently started talking regularly and are “building a friendship.”
Justin Halas and Evelin
This one is a season 2 success story. Justin Halas from San Jose, California, and Evelin from Colombia met during a rugby game in her city while standing in line for a hot dog. After spending seven days together, the 90 Day Fiancé couple fell in love. The only problem here was the self-proclaimed “ladies man” having kept Evelin a secret from his folks back home. But when Evelin moved to America, and changed her name to “Evelyn,” all became well for the TLC twosome. Justin and Evelyn got married and welcomed #BabyHalas into the world, last September.
Brett Otto and Daya De Arce
Snohomish, Washington’s Brett had met Filipina Daya after going through a painful divorce. Daya and he moved in together after she landed in America but she also faced major friction from her future mother-in-law. Brett’s mother Cassidy accused Daya of wanting “expensive things” however the couple tied the knot nonetheless. Fast forward to 2020, this 90 Day Fiancé duo has a three-year-old baby Isabelle who they look after along with Brett’s daughter from his previous relationship, Cassidy. Couple goals, indeed.
Jason Hitch and Cássia Tavares
Cássia from Brazil was actually dating Spring Hill, Florida’s Jason’s friend when they met online. The pair immediately bonded after her breakup and Cássia flew to the USA and moved in with Jason and his father. The frugal life favoring Jason started a mail-order snack business called “Gifting Fun” with Cássia and by 2017, the filed for a divorce – the first time. The 90 Day Fiancé pair quickly reconciled in 2018 but divorced for good this time due to Cássia’s domestic violence claims.
Danny Frishmuth and Amy
The virginal pair of Norristown, Pennsylvania's Danny, and South African Amy had met during a Bible study trip. Post her engagement, Amy chose to stay with Danny’s brother in America in order to stay virgins until marriage. After facing objections from Danny’s father due to Amy’s skin color, this 90 Day Fiancé couple got married in 2014 and stay together to date with two children, Jedidah, 5, and Anna, 3.
