Warning! This post contains a preview for Absolute Flash #1DC's new Absolute Universe created by Darkseid where hope is in short supply and heroes are underdogs, we've thus far met the Absolute versions of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. However, the time has come to meet The Absolute Flash, and it already feels like his origins will similarly be very different compared to what we've seen in the past in the main DC Universe.

As seen in the new preview for DC's Absolute Flash #1 coming from writer Jeff Lemire and artist Nick Robles, readers are introduced to a new version of Wally West. Confirmed to be 15 years old, it looks as though Wally already has his powers and connection to the Speed Force, though it seems to be more volatile and unpredictable with Wally struggling to handle the immense power running through him. Here are the preview pages for the issue:

Wally's thoughts are shown overlapping each other given the sheer speed at which his mind is running. Likewise, his attempt to slow himself down seemingly sends him back in time, two days earlier. As such, this new preview offers an intriguing look at this new Flash and the true danger of his classic powers.

The Absolute Flash Is Wally West, And He's All Alone

15 Years Old, And The Only Known DC Speedster

Absolute Flash running-1

As has been confirmed by Jeff Lemire, the new Absolute Flash is the first and only Fastest Man Alive in this dark new reality. Despite being the third Flash in the main DC reality, this Wally West will be the only known speedster. As such, that means there likely won't be a Jay Garrick or Barry Allen to help him figure out how to control his powers, at least not from this Earth.

Flash Throws a Harder Punch Than Superman, And I Can Prove It

Don't worry - Superman is still the stronger hero. But Flash's greatest punch puts the Man of Steel to shame, breaking reality itself.

It's worth noting that this first arc is titled "Of Two Worlds", a nod to the classic "Flash of Two Worlds" story where Allen first meets his Earth-2 counterpart, and DC's first introduction to the multiverse. Perhaps Absolute Flash could get some assistance from one of the primary DC Universe's Flashes, and we know the Justice League has been trying to access this new "Elseworld" for some time now. However, that's just conjecture. For now, The Absolute Universe's Flash is a 15-year-old kid who's confirmed to be on his own, struggling to deal with his new status quo.

Becoming The Flash Has Never Been Harder (Or More Terrifying)

Imagine Never Being Able To Slow Your Mind, Let Alone Your Body

Comic book art: Wally West clutches his head as red energy surges around him.

To make matters worse, this new preview also confirms that young Wally West appears to struggle with some significant panic attacks and anxiety, obsessively overthinking with constantly racing thoughts. As such, one can only imagine how having super-speed would infinitely compound those challenges with the mind being massively accelerated just as much as the body thanks to the Speed Force. As such, I'm very eager to explore more about the new Absolute Flash and what appears to be a darker perspective on superspeed when the full issue releases from DC Comics.

Absolute Flash #1 is on sale on March 19th from DC Comics.
