DC Debuts A Mysterious New Origin For The Martian Manhunter
An Intangible Martian Attached To An FBI Agent
Based upon what we know so far about the Absolute Martian Manhunter, it's been confirmed that Agent Jones works for the FBI, a clear riff on the original DC Universe where the shapeshifting J'onn J'onzz would assume a human form, going by the name John Jones and working as a private investigator. However, it appears as though Agent Jones and "The Martian" are not the same being. Instead, they'll be operating in tandem as a human and an alien working together as the Absolute Martian Manhunter.

Sorry, Superman: There's Another Hero Who Better Embodies the Heart of the Justice League
Though Superman is the face of the DCU, Martian Manhunter embodies the heart of the Justice League better than the Man of Steel ever could.
It's also been confirmed that, unlike his shapeshifting and green-skinned counterpart in the primary DC Universe, The Martian will be intangible and without form, made up of multiple colors as a kind of ether. As such, he's more than likely the source of the multicolored smoke in the doctor's office that only Agent Jones can see in this new DC preview. In a way, it wouldn't be surprising if the relationship between Jones and The Martian ends up mirroring that of Marvel's Venom and Eddie Brock, a sort of symbiotic relationship between man and alien.
DC's New Absolute Martian Manhunter Series Is Going To Get Real Trippy
It's Gonna Be A Wild Ride
Based on this new preview and teases about the series describing the story as a psychological horror, it seems pretty clear that Absolute Martian Manhunter is set to become a real mind-flip for readers. The Martian Manhunter we're about to meet will be unlikely any version we've seen before, pushing the boundaries of the character in wild new ways with a bold, fresh take on his/their literal form. Seriously, how exciting is that?
