Warning! Preview pages ahead for Absolute Wonder Woman #8!DC Comics is finally done ignoring one of the coolest, if not underrated, powers in good use in the Absolute Universe.
In Darkseid’s twisted take on the DC Universe, such as the Tetracide. Now that her new home, Gateway City, is safe, Diana is resuming her mission to find the Amazons and she’s turning to the wildlife. Using Wonder Woman’s forgotten ability to speak to animals, Diana is working with all kinds of critters to find out if any other Amazons are around.
Wonder Woman Brings Back Her Ability to Talk with Animals
The Creatures of the World are Helping Diana Find the Amazons
In a preview of Absolute Wonder Woman #8 by Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, Jordie Bellaire, and Becca Carey, Diana has returned to Earth after her brief visit to Hell to rescue her mother. Now that she’s settled, Wonder Woman takes a brief respite in the woods of Gateway City. She’s not alone, however, as the creatures of the forest have gathered around her. Deer, crows, and doves surround the young woman as Wonder Woman prepares a small messaging service and brings the birds closer to her.
A dove approaches Diana, and she fawns over it, complimenting its beauty, saying she’s never seen anything like it during her time in Hell. She ties a message to the dove’s foot and lets it down. A nearby crow appears to become jealous of the attention and Diana shows it just as much affection, saying she’s known crows her entire life. She tells all the crows that have come to her that both the goddess Hecate and Wonder Woman love them immensely.
She implores them all to look for any other Amazons that may be out there in the world...
Diana adorns the crow with a message to its foot as well, and talks directly to the birds she’s entrusted with her notes. She implores them all to look for any other Amazons that may be out there in the world and to along her message. She tells the birds to go in peace, hope and faith, whispering a spell of protection by the goddess Hecate. Wonder Woman intones a magic word and all the birds of the forest scatter, venturing out into the world to do as Diana has commanded of them.
Wonder Woman's Coolest Power is Fixing the Absolute Universe
Diana's Amazon Sisters are Bound to be Found by Her Animal Friends
As odd as it sounds, being able to talk to and command animals is a power Wonder Woman has (even if she doesn't use it all the time). It naturally fits with this version of Diana, who has already used a panoply of spells and other arcane rituals. But beyond being a cool and offbeat power, Wonder Woman is using it to help restore something the Absolute Universe desperately needs. The Amazons are lost, but with this odd power, Wonder Woman is getting closer to restoring the society that was stolen from her.
The animals Wonder Woman speaks with can travel further and faster than Diana...
The animals Wonder Woman speaks with can travel further and faster than Diana and with her magic enhancements, so there’s a good chance some will actually find a few Amazons. Sure, speaking with animals isn’t a showy power. But this means of communication is helping Wonder Woman repair a vital part of the DC Universe. It might be an unconventional power, but if this works, Wonder Woman’s animal powers will be the key to her bringing the Amazon society back from the brink of destruction.
