Why Happy Gilmore 2 Should Happen (But Will It?)

Adam Sandler as the titular character holding a golf club in Happy Gilmore

Old Man Gilmore has the potential to be a lot of fun. Sandler would have to retain a lot of what made the original Happy Gilmore work, particularly the fish-out-of-water feeling. But Happy Gilmore 2 will need to evolve and let Sandler play some different sides to the character so that the sequel doesn't become stale, like Grown Ups 2, which Rob Schneider ed on. One way that Happy Gilmore 2 could differentiate itself from the first movie is by leaning into the "one last time" sports movie trope. Having Happy square off in one final round of golf against his old rival, Shooter McGavin, as well as new fresh faces could be the perfect way to bring back the character.

Except for Sandler's sketch of an idea to bring Happy back, there are currently no plans for Happy Gilmore 2. Although Sandler has tended to stay away from sequels, particularly in his early career, he does have a record of bringing characters back - with Adam Sandler's already packed schedule with several movies predicted for release between 2023 and 2025. Happy Gilmore 2 is an exciting prospect that has been made even more exciting by Adam Sandler's enthusiasm to return to the golf course.
