On the heels of the recent reveal, Remedy Entertainment unveiled gameplay footage of Epic Games Store database that made mention of both an Alan Wake re-release and Final Fantasy VII Remake port for PC.
The beloved Remedy title reentered the news this past weekend due to the remaster's appearance on Taiwanese retailer Rakuten's website. Notably, the posting featured details about platforms and an October 2021 launch date. It didn't take long for Remedy and publisher Epic Games to confirm Wake's return themselves; unsurprisingly, a wave of excitement ensued, amplified earlier today by a set of leaked screenshots. The hype intensified further still during Sony's PS5-centric showcase.
Partway through the show, viewers were treated to a nearly 90-second trailer of Alan Wake Remastered in action. Alan Wake himself, voiced by Matthew Porretta, narrated the trailer, which boasted improved visuals and ended on the promise of an October 5 release. A press release following PlayStation Showcase revealed the title will come with a $30 price tag attached, according to a tweet from IGN's Executive Editor, Ryan McCaffrey. While the project's release undoubtedly counts as exciting news for fans and newcomers alike, hopes are high that such an endeavor represents a good omen of even better things to come. In late March, reports suggested Remedy received the green light from Epic to begin work on Alan Wake 2. Should this prove accurate, it's possible production recently kicked off, based on an investor report wherein the studio revealed that a "AAA game project with Epic Games has moved into full production." Is the original remaster a way to prepare audiences for the much-coveted sequel? We'll have to wait and see.
After a lengthy and troubled development cycle, Alan Wake hit stores in May 2010 for the Xbox 360 - just days before Control's AWE DLC, further tying connecting the dots of the Finnish group's expansive universe.
Alan Wake Remastered hits PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on October 5.
