The lights on Amazon's Echo devices display several different colors to notify s about certain tasks and problems. These can be confusing for first-time buyers or even long-time s, with it not being self-explanatory what they mean. Fortunately, each of the meanings is straightforward and understanding them helps s to take full advantage of what the Echo devices offer.
It's first important to note that the Echo Show series will show a light bar near the bottom of the screen. Thankfully, the different light colors mean the same across the board.
The Echo devices display up to seven colors: yellow, blue, red, orange, green, purple, and white. The most common light is blue. A blue light will appear when beginning to spin when there is an active call or Drop-In on the Echo device.
Echo's Software-Related Lights
The remaining four lights will most commonly appear during the initial programming of an Echo device or when a feature change is made. A spinning orange light appears during setup mode, or when the device is connecting to the internet. The device will begin pulsing with a purple light if an error occurs during the Wi-Fi setup, or when the Do Not Disturb feature is active. s will see a white light when adjusting the volume of the device, while a spinning white light means Alexa Guard is on Away mode. Finally, Echo devices will a solid red light when the on/off button for the microphone and/or camera is pressed, or when there is a device error, such as Alexa being unavailable or Wi-Fi connection issues.
Without any additional intuitive clues, it is understandable that Echo s can find the different light colors and their meanings confusing. Amazon is aware of the situation, though, and has programmed Alexa to provide extra insight. So, the next time a colored light appears, just ask Alexa, "What does your light mean?" and she'll let you know. This away Alexa can be helpful in more instances than adding an item to the cart.
