The CW show many characters exited before All American, forcing the show to shift focus to Michael Evans Behling's Jordan, Greta Onieogou's Layla, and Bre-Z's Coop in season 7.
Not even a major narrative change could keep the series down, with All American season 7's cliffhanger ending keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. Luckily, just one month after the release of season 7's finale, Variety has confirmed that All American will return for season 8, which will unfortunately be its last. The showrunner, Nkechi Okoro Carroll made an emotional statement about the end of All American. He said this:
How do I condense into just a few words what would be the longest love letter to this show, the fans, the cast, crew, staff, and producers. My heart is so filled with love and gratitude for everyone who helped bring ‘All American’ to life and kept it going for its historic run. It is so hard to say goodbye to the thing that you love, but we are so excited we get to do it in the way we envisioned with this final season.
Thank you to Brad Schwartz, Channing Dungey, Brett Paul, and Greg Berlanti for ing our vision. Thank you to the many executives at Warner Bros Discovery, CW and Berlanti Productions who have been a ive part of the ‘All American’ huddle since day one.
Thank you to our OG and new generation cast , our writers, crew and full staff for raising the bar every episode. Thank you to Spencer Paysinger, whose life inspired this epic journey. And thank you to everyone who not only watched the show, but took Spencer James’s mantra of ‘Dream Big. Stay Real’ to heart and were inspired to chase their seemingly impossible dreams. We see you. We salute you. Here’s to leaving it all on the field one last time.
Carroll wasn't the only one to address the sad ending of All American. The CW Network president, Brad Schwartz, also offered Variety a statement on the show's ending after eight seasons.
’All American’ is one of the greatest CW shows of all time and we are honored to bring it back for one final season to give fans a chance to say a meaningful goodbye to these inspiring characters and this incredible world. The series took bold new steps in Season 7, adding exciting new characters to the ones we already love, and viewers truly embraced it all. From the first episode of Season 7 to the last, viewership grew 71% among adults 18-49 and 55% among those age 25-54. We cannot wait to see the emotion, heart, and magic that Nkechi Okoro Carroll and the entire cast and creative team deliver in giving this story the proper ending it deserves.
The final season will release in 2026, featuring 13 episodes, with Okoro Carroll returning as the showrunner of season 8.
What All American Ending With Season 8 Means
The Creative Team Will Be Able To Wrap The Story Up In A Satisfying Way
Although the show ending will undoubtedly make fans sad, the statements regarding All American ending prove that the creative team and network behind the show care about giving viewers a satisfying ending that will give them closure for their favorite characters. It's a degree of respect that isn't offered to all shows, with many being unceremoniously canceled instead of given a full season to wrap everything up.

All American's Baker Family Tree Explained
The CW's sports drama series All American features several of the Baker family, which continues to expand as the series progresses.
The only good news about All American ending after season 8 is the fact that viewers will soon be able to see their favorite actors from the sports drama in other projects. Appearing on a network TV show is a major time commitment that frequently stops actors from taking on other TV shows or movies. The cast of All American will soon be free to stretch their creative muscles by giving audiences new and possibly very different characters.
Last year, showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll is open to future All American spinoffs, even though his focus is on the current show.
Our Take On All American Ending
All American Ending After 8 Seasons Is Bittersweet
Because it has been on the air for so long, All American ending with season 8 feels like the end of an era, especially since All American: Homecoming ended as well. However, the sadness from fans about the sports drama ending is just a reminder of how much it meant to people. My only hope is that Daniel Ezra's Spencer James continues to guest star, returning (at the very least) for All American's series finale to bring the show full circle. The story needs to come full circle. He started the story, and he needs to end it.
