Alien lifeforms featured in teasers for Ryan Murphy's Asylum also incorporates paranormal alien mysteries and a full-blown serial killer that exacerbate the conflicts.

American Horror Story has released a few teasers that indicate aliens and mermaid Sirens will be combined as the horror basis of the 10th season, American Horror Story: Double Feature. Ryan Murphy has never used underwater mythological creatures in American Horror Story before Double Feature, but aliens played a key role in season 2’s Asylum. American Horror Story is notable for connecting anthology seasons after years of dormancy on topics, which suggests aliens returning to the series will further evolve their story from season 2.

Asylum left audiences with several lingering questions about the aliens that abducted Alma Walker and eventually her husband, Kit Walker. American Horror Story season 2 indicated Kit was an important piece of the aliens' mission on Earth, but never explained why they abducted him, never to be seen again. Asylum also never revealed what the experiments meant or what their purpose for conducting them was, which undermined part of their eerie, detached presence. Double Feature bringing back aliens will likely also resolve what the aliens wanted from Earth and humans in the first place. Considering their stay seemed to be quite temporary and their need for experimentation was ambiguous, there are still a number of unresolved questions from season 2 that the season can answer.

One of the biggest mysteries from American Horror Story: Asylum was the Micro-bot that Dr. Arden found in Kit’s neck while preparing him for experimental neurosurgery. He noticed a lump that, when removed, appeared to be a microchip of mysterious alien technology. After removing the micro-bot, it grew six legs and ran away, though Dr. Arden caught it and tried to unsuccessfully dissect its pieces before quickly realizing it was practically indestructible and could reassemble itself. Arden believed the chip was spyware by the aliens, which was confirmed when they appeared after Kit's heart stopped. The actual function of the chip and why it was placed in Kit was left ambiguous, so Double Feature’s alien presence can get to the bottom of their implant experimentation, as well.

There's precedent for it, after all. After seven subsequent seasons, Ryan Murphy finally looped back to Murder House in AHS: Apocalypse and answered some important lingering questions about the Harmons and the Langdons. Similarly, the same season brought back some beloved characters from AHS: Coven and resolved many of the mysteries the witch-centric season never answered. Rumors of actors being cast as John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, and Richard Nixon in Double Feature have made waves, which, if accurate, would mean American Horror Story season 10 would take place only slightly before Asylum and leave room for the alien plot to lead right up to Alma’s abduction.
