The theme for American Horror Story season 13 is still unknown, but if it really is the show's final season, it's the last chance to pay off one of its biggest unresolved teases. The horror genre has been going through a successful run in recent years, and not just on the big screen. On TV, the genre has been dominated by the anthology series American Horror Story, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. American Horror Story has stood out for its recurrent cast and themes, as each season covers a different horror theme, usually mixed with others.
Some of mysteries American Horror Story season 13 has to solve, but it would also be the last chance to pay off one of the biggest unresolved teases.
American Horror Story: Double Feature Teased Sirens & Didn’t Deliver
Sirens Were All Over American Horror Story: Double Feature’s Promos
For its 10th season, American Horror Story changed its format a little bit by splitting its episodes into two parts. First was Red Tide, which followed the Gardner family, who moved to Provincetown, Massachusetts, for a three-month winter season trip. There, they met some of the locals, who weren’t exactly the most pleasant people to be around, as the town kept a disturbing secret: there are “pale creatures” all over town, who have a thirst for blood, but the origin of these people is linked to talent and a mysterious drug.

American Horror Story: How Season 10’s Vampires Compare To Hotel’s Villains
AHS: Double Feature puts vampiric creatures at the center of its conflict. Here's how they compare to AHS: Hotel's season 5 vampire villains.
The second part of Double Feature was Death Valley, which followed a group of students who head out into the desert, where they discover a drained lake and a field of dead and mutilated animals. Not long after, they have an encounter with a mysterious light that leaves them nauseous, and later, they discover that all of them – females and males – are pregnant. Death Valley covered aliens (which had already appeared in season 2, Asylum), who are the source of their pregnancies and are involved in a huge conspiracy.
The teasers and posters showed pale creatures with sharp teeth, either underwater or coming out of it, and though they are reminiscent of the pale creatures in Red Tide, before the season came out, these creatures were more like sirens.
Aliens were clearly teased in the promos for American Horror Story: Double Feature, but those for Red Tide were very misleading. The teasers and posters showed pale creatures with sharp teeth, either underwater or coming out of it, and though they are reminiscent of the pale creatures in Red Tide, before the season came out, these creatures were more like sirens. Months earlier, Ryan Murphy posted a poll on Twitter/X asking what horror theme should be covered next in American Horror Story, with sirens being one of the finalists.
The posters and teasers for American Horror Story: Double Feature seemed to confirm that sirens were the theme for one of its two parts, but it ended up being misleading. Sirens haven’t been covered in any capacity so far in American Horror Story, and if season 13 is the end, this is the best and final chance to finally bring sirens to life.
Why Sirens Are A Perfect Theme For American Horror Story Season 13
Sirens, Not Mermaids, Would Be Fitting For American Horror Story
There are various horror themes American Horror Story hasn’t covered yet that would be great to see in season 13, but sirens is one that has surprisingly never been used. Sirens are mythological creatures said to lure sailors with their music and singing voices to shipwreck on the coast of their land. Sirens influenced the image and idea of mermaids, but their appearance is different. While mermaids are half-human and half-fish, sirens are usually depicted as having human upper bodies and bird legs, with or without wings.
Sirens would be something different for American Horror Story, which is what the show needs after some not very exciting recent seasons, and it's not a theme commonly seen in horror.
Sirens are linked to disasters and chaos, and they could be part of an aquatic horror theme for the show. Sirens would be something different for American Horror Story, which is what the show needs after some not very exciting recent seasons, and it's not a theme commonly seen in horror. Sirens could potentially be an exciting and terrifying closing chapter for American Horror Story, if the show really is to end with season 13.
