Target has announced a restock of Animal Crossing: New Horizons to welcome new villagers to players' islands, without having to use Nook Miles Tickets to hunt for specific characters.
Animal Crossing amiibo cards are desired by fans not just due to their collectibility and cute character designs, but also thanks to their in-game functionality. Tapping an amiibo card of a specific villager to the Nintendo Switch system will invite them to the island campsite. Over the course of three days, inviting a villager and crafting their requested items will lead them to ask players to move in. Amiibo cards make finding rare villagers fast and simple, though brand new New Horizons characters such as Raymond don't yet have amiibo cards. Animal Crossing cards are so desirable, they've become a target for scalpers.
Beginning early September, Animal Crossing players will be able to find Animal Crossing Series 1-4 amiibo cards at Target, retailing for $5.99 a pack. The packs each include five regular villager cards and one special character card. The AC Sanrio Collaboration packs, which add special themed Sanrio items and villagers, will also be getting a Target restock. Exclusive villagers included in the Sanrio card set, such as Chai and Rilla, aren't naturally available in the game, making these packs particularly sought-after.
The Sanrio Animal Crossing amiibo cards came to the US for the first time earlier this year, and quickly sold out across retailers. As well as unlocking exclusive villagers, the cards also introduce a range of Sanrio furniture, clothing, and items. The cards are each based on a Sanrio IP: Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, Little Twin Stars (Kiki and Lala), Cinnamoroll, My Melody, and Keroppi. Each card unlocks a villager created for each card, as well as items including sofas, rugs, hats, dresses, lighting, and more. The cards are a must-have for anyone looking to bring a little Sanrio magic to their island.
Target hasn't issued any specific sales rules for the Animal Crossing amiibo restock, but it's likely that players can expect to find packs limited to one per customer in an effort to prevent scalping. Earlier this year, stores like Target and Walmart have had to put similar restrictions in place for the sale of Pokémon cards due to stock shortages and resellers. If Animal Crossing fans don't manage to get their hands on their cards this time, it's hoped more restocks will be coming in the future.
