Summary
- Bunny Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an unpopular event due to the overwhelming amount of eggs.
- The first Bunny Day in 2020 made it difficult for many players to fish and complete other activities.
- Bunny Day continues to be disliked by many in 2024, compared to other favorite events such as Halloween and Toy Day.
Events can be one of the best parts of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but there's one in particular that receives a lot less love from the community than the rest. Celebrating holidays and special occasions was a feature originally introduced in the first game of the franchise, and although there have been some ups and downs in included events since, they've remained a staple of the series. In most cases, having an event roll around shakes up the gameplay opportunities in an exciting way, and it's nice to celebrate just about anything with Animal Crossing villagers.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons events cover a lot of ground, from seasonal celebrations like summer and winter solstices to familiar holidays like Valentine's Day. There's also a fair share of scheduled competitions, like Animal Crossing's classic Fishing Tourney, which recurs regularly throughout the year. Even for those who aren't interested in participating in every event, they don't tend to disrupt the gameplay in any significant way, but there's one notorious exception to that rule.

Bunny Day Is An Infamous Animal Crossing Event
Too Many Eggs Spoil The Broth
Although plenty of Animal Crossing: New Horizons players look forward to Bunny Day just like any other holiday, there's a significant subset of the fan base that's more likely to shiver when it's mentioned. As a secular take on Easter, Bunny Day sees the arrival of a bunny mascot called Zipper and an absolute smorgasbord of eggs. Acquiring eggs and crafting recipes makes it possible to create a number of festive decorations, and although most might look strange to put on display year-round, they're suitable for a nice spring celebration.
The widespread negative attitude toward Bunny Day, however, goes back to the 2020 launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Releasing shortly after the spread of the pandemic took off, New Horizons got a big bump in popularity thanks to Switch owners needing something to occupy themselves in isolation. Spending hours on end crafting the perfect island was an appealing way to maintain a sense of productivity, and the social element provided a perfect virtual opportunity to hang out with friends. Bunny Day, unfortunately, absolutely did not take into just how much time people were spending in the game.

Animal Crossing: You Should Hold On To Eggs, Even If You Hate Bunny Day
Animal Crossing New Horizons' Bunny Day is not the most popular seasonal event among the community, tempting players to discard excess eggs.
The problem with Bunny Day is that it doesn't just add eggs into the mix, but instead replaces a lot of items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons with them. Going out on a regular fishing trip was more likely to leave the player drowning in eggs than actually result in many fish, which could be frustrating while players were attempting to build up their Critterpedia or simply make money. It also distracted from the ongoing Cherry Blossom Festival, which offered some beautiful rewards that many players were already more invested in.
The spawn rate of eggs ended up being reduced before Bunny Day ended in 2020, but by that time, the damage to the event's reputation was already done.
Bunny Day Is Still Unpopular Years After Its ACNH Debut
It's Not Animal Crossing's Most Charming Event
Resentment toward Bunny Day still festers in 2024, as evidenced by a Reddit poll that anonymous_girl1227 posted and reflected on. In a survey asking for people's least favorite event, Bunny Day (referred to as Egg day in the poll) came in first with 47 votes, demolishing the second place tally of 13 awarded to Fishing/Bug events. Other big Animal Crossing holidays like Toy Day, Halloween, and Turkey Day (referred to as the Harvest Festival in prior games) received only two or three votes, proving that no such frustrations ever defined Bunny Day's competitors.

ACNH Sequel Can Have Summer Events Better Than Fireworks
Plenty of Animal Crossing fans have been speculating about a New Horizons sequel, and many feel that it could add new and improved summer events.
The initial furor around Bunny Day was definitely something of an over-reaction, as it's easy to understand why Nintendo made the spawn rate so aggressive to begin with. Kids and casual players might not have the time to play the game all day, and tossing a ton of eggs onto every island gave everyone a chance to have some fun. For the truly dedicated fans, however, it definitely ended up turning into something frustrating, and years later, it still feels like Bunny Day could use some tweaks in its design to rank among the best Animal Crossing: New Horizons events.
