New Horizons will be adding more than just Mario items, however. The latest update also includes St. Patrick's Day, Pi Day, and Girl's Day exclusives, the latter being a yearly holiday in Japan on March 3. This update drops February 25, and, once ed, players will have access to the Mario content starting March 1, 2021.
While the announcement mentions s will be able to place two Warp Pipes, future of Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Animal Crossing's Mario Warp Pipes In New Horizons, Explained
It makes sense that, if only two are placed, jumping in one Warp Pipe will have the player come out of the other. The Animal Crossing website notes placing more than two will result in the player coming out of a random Warp Pipe. This could allow for an interesting multiplayer game of hide-and-seek when other players come to visit one's New Horizons island. It's currently unknown if there will be a maximum limit of how many Warp Pipes can be placed, but Nintendo does note there will need to be enough empty space surrounding these items for them to work properly.
What's even more exciting is that Warp Pipes can also be placed inside the player's New Horizons home. Those fixing up certain areas on the island - especially areas on a side opposite from the player's house - will be happy to know they can use Warp Pipes to teleport home if their pockets are full, letting them more easily empty their inventories or retrieve furniture from their home storage. Besides the Warp Pipes, players can look forward to other promotional Mario items through Nook Shopping, including a Mushroom Mural Wallpaper, a Yoshi's Egg rug, 1-Up Mushrooms, and clothing designed to transform players into Mario favorites, such as Princess Peach, Luigi, and Wario.
Even if Animal Crossing fans aren't necessarily going for a Super Mario Bros. aesthetic, the presence of the Warp Pipes gives players a much-appreciated quality of life enhancement. For a game that has already potentially taken up hours of gaming time, new shortcuts and conveniences are certainly welcome in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
