An update themed after the Mario-themed Splatfest in Splatoon 2, which took place just recently.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has seen some new content come to the game, the most notable of which being the Festivale occurring on February 15. This Mardi-Gras-esque holiday will introduce players to Pavé the peacock. During the event, players will be tasked with collecting feathers and participating in games. These feathers can be used for various crafting purposes. There are even several clothing items themed after the Festivale. Numerous items in Nook's Cranny are being sold to celebrate the Festivale, as well.

Nintendo of America has shared on Twitter that a Super Mario update will be headed to Animal Crossing: New Horizons sometime during March. Although this information was first unveiled in September, Nintendo is reminding fans that this event is coming very soon. It is currently unclear what date the Mario festivities commence, but they are happening next month nonetheless. One aspect of this update will include Super Mario furniture items. However, not much is known about the update, but that will change very soon.

This update has the potential to be a truly exceptional crossover, so hopefully Nintendo goes beyond incorporating a paltry handful of Mario-themed furniture items. In 2013's Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Nintendo included several The Legend of Zelda characters when new franchise amiibo were introduced. This led to the possibility of encountering Wolf Link or even Ganon in your village, which was a charming inclusion.

Following that line of thought, seeing various Super Mario characters roaming around your island, such as Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, would be a true delight for many fans of both franchises. This could even be an opportunity to include Super Mario clothing, allowing players to dress up as their favorite characters without having to use Custom Designs. Maybe Redd could even temporarily sell Mario-themed art and sculptures that could be donated to Blathers' museum.  There's so much that Nintendo could do here, so here's hoping that the company has big, exciting plans in store.
