The least liked character in Animal Crossing: New Horizons just got even creepier thanks to an odd glitched discovered by a fan. The annual Bunny Day celebration is back and that means the mascot rabbit character Zipper T. Bunny has also arrived back on players' islands. Although the rabbit-costume-wearing character is meant to be the herald of spring in ACNH, most players actually find him unsettling.
The Bunny Day celebration started earlier this week, and fans were not thrilled to find Zipper wandering around their islands again. Reddit Tacon53 got an even bigger surprise when they went to talk to the mascot character and discovered a glitch, instead. The Redditor shared a video showing the creepy encounter, where instead of starting a conversation with the player, Zipper simply stares at the player without saying a word.
Creepy Animal Crossing: New Horizons Glitch Fails To Load Dialogue With Zipper
Fans Joke About Animatronic Mascot Horror Arriving In ACNH
In the glitch, the game zooms in like it's about to start a dialogue, but the dialogue overlay never loads. Instead, Zipper is shown perpetually doing his idle animation, blinking wordlessly at the player. The Redditor describes feeling scared at first, then finding it funny, asking, "Is this how creepypastas are born?" According to the poster, the glitch can only be reset by leaving and reloading the game (something that would have been much more of a hassle when the notorious Resetti was still around to chastise players for leaving the game without saving).

The Worst Animal Crossing Game Is Actually The Best Fit For Nintendo Switch 2
There is one Animal Crossing game that fans universally agree is the worst, but it could find some redemption with a sequel on Nintendo Switch 2.
Other Redditors report having a similar experience, showing that this isn't a one-off error but might instead be a widespread bug. The comments had some fun with this information, with some worrying that Zipper is gaining sentience or worse, breaking. Considering the maybe-rabbit character's mascot-like appearance, it's hard not to draw parallels to the animatronic mascot horror games of recent years, making Zipper seem somehow even more terrifying than he usually does.
Zipper T. Bunny Is Almost Universally Disliked
The Mascot-Like Character Is Terrifying Even Without The Glitch
The Animal Crossing franchise has many cute animal-themed characters, including some odd villager design choices. But no characters are as nearly universally disliked as ACNH's version of the Easter Bunny, Zipper T. Bunny. Who or what the character actually is has been a mystery ever since he made his debut clearly wearing a mascot outfit with a massive zipper on its back.
The character is supposed to spread cheer for Bunny Day, but he's frequently spotted wandering around looking sad, and grumbling to himself that he wants a new job. Even the other villagers appear to dislike Zipper, worrying about his health or outright fearing him. In Pocket Camp, Zipper seems sensitive about his condition, telling the player that it's rude to call his look a "costume" and reminding players that underneath the oversized rabbit head is a person with feelings, maybe. (No one actually knows what goes on in there.)
Having this character just stare without a word in this weird glitch from Animal Crossing: New Horizons makes him reach a new level of creepiness, turning an already uncomfortable encounter into one that's equal parts awkward and terrifying. Hopefully, Nintendo will patch up the poor rabbit mascot, because he certainly doesn't need any more bad publicity.
