Summary

  • Alternative weapons like axes or bows are not available in Assassin's Creed Mirage, so Basim must rely on his sword throughout the game.
  • Each sword in the game has unique perks, making it viable depending on personal preferences.
  • Some swords may be basic or lack distinction compared to others, but they can still be used effectively.

Basim's main weapon in Assassin's Creed Mirage is a sword, so it's important for him to wield one that looks good as he slices and dices through the guards of Baghdad. Unlike other recent Assassin's Creed titles, alternative weapons like axes or bow aren't present in the game, meaning that one sword or another will remain equipped throughout the entire game. None of the available blades in Assassin's Creed Mirage are entirely lacking in style, but some are more basic than others, making abandoning less glamorous options once others become available to Basim a good call.

Each sword in Assassin's Creed Mirage features some unique perks of its own, making any blade viable depending on which strengths are the most appealing. This might make it impossible to pick a sword based on its appearance, but Mirage luckily features a system that allows one weapon to take on the appearance of another. This can be achieved by visiting a blacksmith and paying 50 dirham, a system that also works for daggers.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage marks a concerted effort for the series to return to its roots, but that doesn’t make it immune to longstanding issues.

10 Zanj Uprising Sword

Straight Zanj Uprising Sword in Assassin's Creed Mirage

The Zanj uprising is a movement of Baghdad's downtrodden, so it makes sense that a sword associated with the rebellion wouldn't be particularly ornate. That being said, its clean utilitarianism can feel somewhat lacking compared to more flashy alternatives in Assassin's Creed Mirage. This is a solid option for those who prefer straight swords, but its design is unlikely to see use through the endgame when placed among the competition.

9 Initiate Of Alamut Sword

Curved Initiate of Alamut Sword in Assassin's Creed Mirage.

The Initiate of Alamut sword is essentially a beginner option in Assassin's Creed Mirage, making its lack of distinction generally unsurprising. Its clean lines and beautiful hilt still make it a great-looking blade, but it doesn't angle into any one design element in the way that many other swords in Assassin's Creed Mirage do. Sticking with this sword throughout the game wouldn't be a major disservice to Basim's style, but it also wouldn't capitalize on the full available potential.

8 Jinn Sword

Beat-up Jinn Sword in Assassin's Creed Mirage

The rough-and-tumble look of the Jinn Sword is undeniably cool, and the size of the blade gives it an impressive visual weightiness. As one of the DLC weapons for the game, however, it may be hard to argue that its appearance is worth the cost. It ultimately lacks the pizazz of Assassin's Creed Mirage's very best swords, and it's likely that Basim will have competitive or superior options by the time that it can actually be used in the game.

7 Abbasid Knight Sword

Curved and patterned Abbasid Knight Sword in Assassin's Creed Mirage.

Like the dagger belonging to the same ranks, the Abbasid Knight sword stands out mostly thanks to its ornamentation. Intricate design work on the blade makes it clear that this weapon was no rush job, and a hilt with some scrollwork ties the overall look together. All those grooves could make this sword a little harder to keep clean, but Assassin's Creed Mirage doesn't bog down the gameplay with such minutiae, so there's no real drawback to its use.

6 Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar

Straight sword Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar in Assassin's Creed Mirage

Procured from an unusual source, the Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar has a slightly anachronistic sensibility, with a glowing wedge at the bottom of the blade making it stand out among other swords of Baghdad. The blade itself is fairly straightforward, although it does feature a dash of ornamentation to break up the monotony. Its utility is one of the most transformative, slashing Basim's health while increasing his damage, but it's always possible to put a different appearance on it for those who prefer another look.

5 Hidden One Sword

Curved Hidden One Sword in Assassin's Creed Mirage

The Hidden One sword is a weapon that uses its silhouette to stand out in Assassin's Creed Mirage, with a couple of extra curves making for a more aggressive profile than the typical blade. It doesn't feature any notable ornamentation that makes a closer look particularly rewarding, but frills aren't necessary to make a weapon look good. Even so, there are other swords in Assassin's Creed Mirage that offer more to eagle-eyed spectators, making this a very viable option but keeping it from the ranks of the very best.

4 Rostam Sword

Elaborate straight blade the Rostam Sword in Assassin's Creed Mirage

The Rostam Sword is named after a legendary hero of Persian myth, and the weapon does a reasonably good job of living up to such a legacy. A highly stylized crossguard would no doubt add some real weight to this weapon, potentially offset by an unusually deep fuller running the length of the blade. The Rostam Sword has the biggest visual impact of any straight sword included in the base game of Assassin's Creed Mirage, and the ability to acquire it fairly early in the narrative makes it well-worth trying out.

3 Lightning Sword

Intricately designed glowing Lightning Sword in Assassin's Creed Mirage

The Lightning Sword is all about the ornamentation, with curlicues interweaving in a metal framework across its blade in a way that no other sword attempts. It looks even better in motion, with a vivid lightning effect that makes all of its intricate design work ultimately play second fiddle. Jewels inset into the hilt complete the sense of luxurious design, making taking the Lightning Sword out for a spin a must for anyone who invests in the Lightning Weapons Pack.

2 Demon Claw

Glowing red striaght sword Demon Claw in Assassin's Creed Mirage

The Demon Claw is arguably the most striking of Assassin's Creed Mirage's straight swords, thanks largely to the red-hot blade that can set fire to enemies. That isn't the only plus, however, as an impressive width and unique texturing make for some additional standout features. The spiral pattern on top of the hilt doesn't look especially comfortable, but some sacrifices can be made in the name of style.

1 Sand Sword

Prince of Persia fans will get a real kick out of the Sand Sword, a stylish throwback to 2003's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Available only through the deluxe edition package or upgrade for Assassin's Creed Mirage, the Sand Sword features an intricately designed blade and ornamentation that looks like an open-beaked eagle above the hilt. Sand-like particle effects complete the overall look, making this Assassin's Creed Mirage sword a winner in all categories.
