The Twisted Tree assassination board targets in Assassin's Creed Shadows include seven different targets found in and around Kyoto in the Yamashiro region. To access this tree, you can find discarded letters lying around Kyoto as you explore the area or various side quests. Most of the targets on this board can be found relatively easily around Kyoto with the observed feature, though some of the clues for each target can be somewhat vague. You will also need to decide whether to kill or spare a few of the Twisted Tree Targets.

The Twisted Tree target board, similar to AC Mirage's objective board, consists of the siblings in the Takahashi family, ruled by their stern and punishing father, Takahashi Inoshichi. Three of the siblings believe they are destined for something more than the thug life, though, and you'll have the option to spare them (and still gain the rewards). The other three siblings are quite the opposite and are constantly being protected by large Ronin bodyguards. You'll need to take out the guards or find a way to pick the targets off on their own if you want to complete the Twisted Tree target board.

Twisted Tree Target Locations & Rewards For Goro & Ichi-Hime

The "Good" Kids Can Be Spared If You're Feeling Merciful

You may notice that a few of the Twisted Tree target board targets have slightly ambiguous descriptions that imply they aren't as evil or dangerous as their siblings. Ichi-Hime is located in the western part of Kyoto, in the Umenomiya Shrine, where you can approach and observe her instead of attacking; in this case, she will give you a letter explaining she was planning to escape with her younger brother, Goro. If you also want to spare Goro, you can find him at the Shokokuji Pagoda fast-travel location in northern Kyoto.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows fits into the complicated Assassin’s Creed timeline, spanning centuries of history across four different continents.

There are various clues that suggest another target, Shiro, can also be spared. His description on the board points out his kinship with Goro and Ichi-Hime, and you can take out the guard outside Nijo Palace for another letter, implying that Shiro may actually be a prisoner more than an enforcer. However, it doesn't appear you can actually spare Shiro despite your best efforts. It's worth noting that if you don't want to track down Ichi-Hime or Goro, they'll be automatically spared if you assassinate the patriarch, Takahashi Inoshichi.

You can use both Naoe and Yasuke to take out Twisted Tree targets depending on your playstyle preferences - Naoe for stealth kills and Yasuke for group encounters.

Whether you spare or kill both Goro and Ichi-Hime, the rewards are the same. Ichi-Hime rewards 2000 base XP, two Mastery Points, the rare Daydreamer's Grip bow for Yasuke, 305 mon, the Adrenaline on Afflicted Enemies engraving, and Ichi-Hime's letter, which details her and Goro's escape plan. Sparing or killing Goro rewards 2000 XP and two mastery points as well. You'll also get the Raijan's Refusal rare Teppo and the Damage after Headshot engraving, plus a little mon.

Twisted Tree Target Locations & Rewards For Shiro, Taro, Saburo, & Jiro

You'll Have To Deal With The Problem Children The Hard Way

As mentioned above, it isn't entirely clear whether Shiro deserves to be killed, but he can initially be found at Nijo Palace standing guard in the corner just beneath the fast-travel location. Shiro rewards another 2000 XP and two Mastery Points, as well as the Untamable One rare katana and the Armor Piercing on Consecutive Kills engraving. He will also drop a letter disclosing Taro's location at the Asukai Clan Domain. You can head there to find both Taro and Saburo gathered nearby.

Engravings are unlocked in various ways and can be slotted into different types of gear at the Forge in your hideout in AC Shadows.

The two will be right next to each other, seemingly in a heated discussion. Eventually, they will split off, and you can pick them up one at a time. Taro will go to practice his swordsmanship at the bamboo targets in the Asukai Clan Domain, and there won't be any guards around him, making him a pretty easy target. Saburo, on the other hand, is being protected by a giant bodyguard who can make things slightly trickier. If you have buffed up your assassination skills, you can double assassinate these two and make quick work of it.

Saburo will drop the Saburo's Deference rare katana and the Tools on Kill engraving, while Taro will drop the Burden of Legacy Long Katana and the Critical Damage with Melee Weapon engraving. Much like the other Twisted Tree targets, you'll also be rewarded with 2000 XP, two Mastery Points for both Saburo and Taro and clues to Jiro's location. Jiro is found patrolling south of the Hinnoji Temple, harassing civilians with his katana, and he drops the Final Word of the Guardian Teppo and the Armor Damage on Multiple Enemies engraving.

Twisted Tree Leader Takahashi Inoshichi Location & Rewards

Killing Inoshichi First Gathers All Siblings For Revenge

Twisted Tree AC Shadows Takahishi

Your final target is the patriarch himself, Takahashi Inoshichi, who is located in a secret garden that is well-protected by some powerful enemies, including Inoshichi himself. The secret garden is found slightly west of the Honnoji Temple in southern Kyoto, and there are a few convenient holes in the surrounding walls for you to sneak through. Stealth is the way to go with this encounter, and you can easily get around the guards and take Inoshichi out in his room in the center of the garden.

Killing Inoshichi completes the target board, awarding 7000 total XP, the Kitsune's Trickery Legendary amulet, and the Health for Samurai Mastery engraving. This amulet is among the first powerful ones you'll come across for Yasuke, boosting health by 1% per Samurai Mastery Point invested. Importantly, you can take Inoshichi down first before any other targets, which will cause four siblings to gather immediately outside the doors. This will automatically spare Goro and Ichi-Hime and award you their loot, but you'll have to deal with the four tough leaders all in the same location.

Are Animus Hub Rewards Free For AC Shadows & Other Assassin's Creed Games?

The Animus Hub is a major addition to the Assassin's Creed franchise that offers a new avenue for obtaining rewards in AC Shadows and beyond.

Overall, the Twisted Tree target board and quest will give you a ton of XP after taking down each target. While the rare and uncommon gear drops aren't nothing to write home about, the Kitsune's Trickery amulet is a legendary item for Yasuke. There are no additional benefits to sparing versus killing Goro and Ichi-Hime, so it will be up to you to decide what's easier or preferable from a role-playing perspective. If you choose to kill Inoshichi first and force the brothers to gather at the estate, you'll probably want to use Yasuke and call in some of Assassin's Creed Shadows' companions for help.
