Getting through the Megalithic Vault in Assassin's Creed Shadows might seem difficult when you are wandering around in the dark. It's not just hard to see, but there are other contributing factors, particularly with the way you have to navigate in and out of different rooms to progress the quest. You can find the way through with some light to help guide you.

The Kofun are one way you can acquire Knowledge Points in Assassin's Creed Shadows, and it is quite important to complete them and rank up your Knowledge level, as that is what determines what skills you can unlock. If you ignore the Knowledge Point missions, you will never be able to fully level either Yasuke or Naoe, and they will not be able to accomplish basic tasks. The Megalithic Vault, like all of these missions, will give you a single Knowledge Point, but you can also get loot from it.

Getting Inside The Megalithic Vault

Where To Find It & Who To Take With You

If you need to find your way in, you should look for a ? in the northwest of the Yamato region. The closest viewpoint is Koriyama Forest, and you will want to move north and ever so slightly east to get there. If you are able to look closer on the map, you will see that there is a keyhole-shaped piece of land surrounded on most sides by water, and you will want to head right to the top of it to enter.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has a number of key difficulty options, but its hardest completely transforms the game into a vastly different experience.

There will be stairs heading down, and you just have to walk inside. You will want to use the protagonist Yasuke for this Kofun, as you will need him to move the shelves.

You must have a bow or a teppo to complete the Vault as well; if you don't have one, check with any gear vendor.

At the bottom of the stairs, push the box out of the way and enter the Kofun properly. Once you're inside, I would recommend lighting most of the candles you come across, as it will be quite dark, and you have no way of getting light yourself.

The Opening Section Of The Vault

Getting Deeper Into The Kofun

Yasuke using an explosive

After you get some light, you will want to grab the explosive and put it next to the crumbling rocks in the doorway. Stand far enough back that you won't get hurt and shoot the explosive with a teppo or a bow. I will say that the Vault offers a few ways to refill your arrows, but only one spot where you can refill your teppo ammo.

The next room has a few interesting things to look at, but there is a giant hole in the floor. You can look around, and you will notice the chest through a blocked door, but you cannot get through. You will have to take the plunge to progress through the Vault. Take the plunge - there is water waiting for you at the bottom.

The Second Section Of The Vault

Yasuke getting ready to dive

There is a chest at the bottom of the water you drop into, so take a breath and then dive back in to get it. I received the Agile Samurai Outfit (Uncommon Armor). Not every chest always has the same reward for everyone, so keep that in mind. However, it is likely to be an uncommon item.

Exit the water and head down the age. You will go up a set of stairs. On your left is a dead end, so you will want to go right by going using the new stealth mechanic of going prone. Come out the other side and continue down the ageway. You will have to vault over an obstacle, but you should do it automatically by approaching it with a little speed. You will have to go prone again to get into the new room.

The First Movement Puzzle

Figuring Out Where To Put The Boxes

Yasuke moving a box

I call it a movement puzzle because you will have to move the shelves/boxes in a specific way in order to progress. Approach it and move it a little to the right, and you will be able to get another loot box. For me, it was a Bamboo Fence (Cosmetic). You then want to pull the right, larger box as far back as possible to reveal the door opening.

Turning on some of the lights in this room will help a little, but you are going to want to pull the smaller box through the opening and into the main room. If you push it up against the far wall where the opening is, you will be able to scale the box to get to the top of the room. Again, you will want to go right, and you will find yourself on the other side of a bridge. You will need to make the jump to get to the other side.

This time, if you head right, you will eventually come to a dead end with a door that's barred on the opposite side. So head left and straight to get to the next section.

The Second Movement Puzzle

Moving More Boxes

The view of the whole room in the Megalithic Vault

You will come out on a ledge that you will need to jump down from. I lit the candle on the ledge, so I could see where I jumped down, but that's not necessary. Once you jump down, you'll see a lot of options, and it may feel overwhelming, but it's less complicated than it looks. Light the candles so you can see - that will be more important later. There is one box that you can move by pulling it toward you, so pull it back and enter the age (blue arrow in the photo).

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has seven main enemy types for its protagonists to face, each with its own difficulty level and unique characteristics.

When you reach the end of it, grab the box, pull it back (this opens the area where the yellow arrow is), and then return to the room you left. You can now pull the box that is now in the room past the coffin and up against the wall on the other side. You may want to switch to pushing the box as it will help you see more. Then scale onto the pillar and make your way around the room. Yasuke isn't great at platforming, but you should be able to maneuver him to where the opening in the room is.

The next room is fairly straightforward. You'll follow the wooden ledge around the room and to the other side. You will have to do some jumping, but nothing complicated. Then it's on to the final part of the Vault.

Getting To The Chest & Final Rewards

The Statues Room

The loot box in the Megalithic Vault

You will enter an odd room with six little statues surrounding a pile on the floor. Refill your arrows and then head directly behind the statues, where you can go prone. None of the other options that look like exits can be used at the moment. Crawl through and jump across where you need to to get to the end of the ageway. There is a small chest at the end, which was a piece of common headgear for me.

Then you'll want to look through a hole in the wall. There is gold or Mon on the ground near the window to make it stand out. Shoot the explosive through that window, and then head back the way you came to re-enter the statue room. You will then be able to walk through the doorway by pushing the box forward. Turn to the right when the age opens, and you will be in the treasure room. It contains:

  • Elegant Samurai Outfit (Legendary Armor)
  • Posture Damage per Adrenaline Chunk (Legendary Engraving)

You will also gain the Knowledge Point and experience, and you can move the box to the left of the treasure chest and crawl through the opening to officially complete the Monolithic Vault in Assassin's Creed Shadows.
