About Alexandra Balasa

Alexandra Balasa is a Reality TV writer for Screenrant, PhD student (ABD), and Instructor at the University of Texas at Dallas, though she feels more like three owls in a trench coat. She has taught Rhetoric, Creative Writing, and Literature at the university level. Her greatest achievements are playing Magic: The Gathering with Brandon Sanderson one time, receiving a personalized birthday video from Dr. Nowzaradan, and when Peter Watts threw a Timbit at her head. Her ion for reality television, particularly 90 Day Fiance, stems from growing up with two Romanian parents who married international partners. Alex has been a writer and editor for The Spectatorial, the University of Toronto's only speculative fiction magazine, as well as the Fiction and Assistant Editor for Reunion: The Dallas Review. Working and studying in Toronto, Edinburgh, and Dallas has given Alex the opportunity to collaborate with prolific writers and literary agents. Her work has appeared in magazines such as PodCastle, Cosmic Roots and Eldritch Shores, Deep Magic, and James Gunn's Ad Astra. She is a member of the SFWA (Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America), SAMLA (South Atlantic Modern Language Association), SCMLA (Southern Central Modern Language Association), PCA/ACA (Popular Culture Association), SFRA (Science Fiction Research Association) and AWP (Association of Writers & Writers' Programs). Her research interests include deconstructing social and linguistic binaries; fragmentation of the body in speculative fiction; myth, magic, science, and religion in social consciousness; and of course, the shenanigans of Colt and Larissa on 90 Day Fiance.
