About Eliza Perry

Eliza Perry is a UK-based freelance film journalist and festival programmer. With nearly a decade of experience, three years of which were spent programming for FilmBath Festival, she's also dedicated to writing for film journals and promoting film exhibition events.

With both a BA (Hons) and an MA in Film and Television Studies from The University of Warwick, Eliza's extensive portfolio includes crafting press materials for emerging filmmakers, contributing to SouthWest film journals, authoring film notes and writing festival programme content.

Industry Focus

Eliza's interests mainly lead back to horror and art cinema. She wrote her BA dissertation on the representation of ghosts and grief in horror and art cinema. Pinpointing a 'post-horror film' which foregrounds existential dread and unveils what significance the visibility of ghosts and grief reveals about our culture.

Her MA dissertation explored the affective qualities of horror films by drawing on theories of tactility and muscular empathy. With ing theories of kinaesthesia, the dissertation examined how spectators are encouraged to feel with the films to distressing effect.

That said, in her four years studying film and television, she developed an extensive analytical backing on new wave cinema, Swedish cinema, Romantic comedy and documentary films.

Favorite Media

Eliza has always had a ion for film and television, but she's particularly drawn to horror and indie art cinema.

Her favorite film of all time is Withnail and I and her most beloved TV show is Hannibal. If she's feeling nostalgic she'll pop on Spirited Away and have a good cry.

She's also keen on true-crime documentaries, musicals, and feminist TV comedies like Broad City and Fleabag.
