About Kaashif Hajee
Kaashif is a writer and researcher from Mumbai, India. He studied film at NYU, where he worked as a research assistant and served as the editor-in-chief of the student publication. His senior thesis film "Gair" (Outsider) has been screened at Black Box Cinema, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival’s Pocket Cinema, and MESA 2022 FilmFest, and received a 5-star rating from Short Films Matter.
Kaashif later did his Master's in anthropology at SOAS, University of London. For his dissertation, he interviewed several prominant actors, directors, and producers to explore the impact of censorship, the pandemic, and the rise of streaming platforms on India's Hindi film industry. Currently working as a freelance writer in London, Kaashif has written for the YouTube channel "Epic Economics", along with publications like The Quint, The Caravan, Postscript Magazine, Alserkal Online, and South Asian Avant-Garde.
Industry Focus
Kaashif keeps up with all the latest movies and TV shows, but he has a soft spot for Hindi cinema. His favourite genre is "eat-the-rich" satire done right.
Favorite Media
Kaashif finds "all-time favorites" difficult – but he recently really enjoyed The Holdovers, which reminded him of old classics like Scent of a Woman and Dead Poets Society. He also loved American Fiction, Poor Things, and Anatomy of a Fall. On TV, Kaashif still can't stop thinking about BoJack Horseman, Fleabag, Breaking Bad, and Succession. He recently loved The Curse, Expats, and Poacher, and can't wait for Severance season 2 and The White Lotus season 3.
