She also knows too much about the Victorian era for her general comfort. (Ask her about poisoned wallpaper.)
She has a degree in English, where she studied comics and genre literature. In her secret heart, she is a history major. Based in New York, she works with ScreenRant's Movies & TV teams.
Author Details
A New York City native, Kaila has worked in media since 2006, and also spent time on the tech side of things at places like Tumblr. 'Gif' is pronounced with a hard 'g.' Her work has appeared in Wired, New York Magazine's The Cut, io9, Cosmopolitan, The Awl, Business Insider, and Gizmodo. She was the Managing Editor of The Mary Sue, where she thought a lot about superheroes.
Industry Focus
ing ScreenRant in 2025, Kaila is the Movies & TV Deputy Editor. She works across all film and television genres, and loves them all equally for coverage consideration. You can reach her at [email protected].
Favorite Media
Kaila grew up on a steady diet of Star Trek and always has opinions about Star Trek, especially Deep Space Nine and Captains Sisko and Kirk. She is a big fan of science fiction TV and will watch anything set in space or an underground silo. It is her fervent belief that everyone's lives would be improved by watching The Expanse, Station Eleven, and Babylon 5.
She also loves superheroes—while she acknowledges that Captain America: The Winter Solider is the MCU's masterpiece, she has seen Thor: Ragnarok an astonishing amount of times. She has a deep affection for Star Wars, James Bond, Lord of the Rings, and any TV show or movie where murder is investigated in the British countryside.
