Quick Links
After a battle with a boss in Act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3, you have a choice to resurrect the husband of NPC Mayrina using a magical item. Reviving Connor, the dead spouse, can lead to new interactions later in the story, like many choices present in this game. Additional decisions made after raising the husband from the dead could greatly affect your adventures in the future.
Some spoilers for quests in Act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3 will be mentioned going forward.
You'll first hear about Mayrina as you are traveling through the Sunlit Wetlands during Act 1 as her brothers are accusing Auntie Ethel of kidnapping her. Ethel is one of many NPC vendors you could meet at the Emerald Grove past the Nautiloid crash. Traveling to Auntie Ethel's residence proves that she is a hag, a powerful fey creature who promised to revive Mayrina's husband herself in Baldur's Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Act 1 Checklist (Everything You Don’t Want To Miss)
Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 has much to see, like recruitable characters, hidden bosses, and other secrets that might require a checklist.
How to Rescue Mayrina in Baldur's Gate 3
Confronting Auntie Ethel in any way causes her to teleport Mayrina deeper into her lair and imprison the widow within a cage. The hag threatens to cook and eat Mayrina unless you put out the fire under her, or get her out of the cage before it burns. This leads to a desperate and difficult boss fight in Baldur's Gate 3 against Ethel, who uses a variety of illusions and other magic spells to trick your party.
Be careful not to hit Mayrina when Auntie Ethel disguises herself as the widow during the boss fight. The version of Mayrina concentrating on a spell is the hag, so attack the illusion to break the boss' concentration.
Eventually, Auntie Ethel will either be killed or try to flee from your party if you manage to defeat the hag in battle. No matter what you choose regarding the fey creature's fate, you will still be able to revive Mayrina's husband as long as the widow is alive. Despite saving her life, Mayrina will be pretty upset with you for driving Ethel away, since the hag originally was the first to promise Connor's resurrection.

Should You Help Auntie Ethel In Baldur's Gate 3?
Auntie Ethel seems to be in some distress when first encountered in Baldur's Gate 3, but deciding whether to help her is a very complicated choice.
After the fight, Mayrina will leave for Connor's coffin, located just outside the boss arena in Baldur's Gate 3. Search the room just past where you fought the hag to discover an item called Bitter Divorce, a magic wand worth 100 Gold on a table near a door leading back into Ethel's lair. Interact with the circle of mushrooms in the boss' chambers to open a path forward, where Mayrina will be waiting.
Should You Revive Mayrina's Husband in Baldur's Gate 3?
Pointing the wand at Connor's coffin will revive Mayrina's husband but as a rotten zombie devoid of any soul or intelligence. This shambling corpse acts as an undead creature you can control as long as you keep Bitter Divorce equipped. The moral implications of this resurrection may be somewhat shady, but it is best to bring back the husband for the other benefits the zombie has.
Choosing to keep the wand gives you Second Marriage, another item that allows you to summon Connor as an action during combat. This zombie acts as an ally for ten rounds of combat, which usually takes up a majority of non-boss fights in Baldur's Gate 3. However, Mayrina will not be happy if you turn her dead husband into a meat shield for your party.
Handing over the wand to Mayrina unlocks a new quest later in Act 3 when you reach the Lower City. More adventure and loot await those who choose this option, so consider this route if you want to see another story in the future. Learning how to resurrect Mayrina's husband in Baldur's Gate 3 can affect the approval of the many possible companions included in your party as well.
