Baldur's Gate 3's Honour Mode is significantly harder than the other game modes, primarily due to two things: the limit to one save file that is erased if your party is wiped, and the new legendary actions. These are additional abilities provided to certain bosses that augment their combat features, often giving them increased damage output and greater control of the battlefield. However, they work a little differently from D&D legendary actions.
Instead of the monster getting additional actions to act outside their turn at their own discretion, the BG3 versions essentially work as extra reactions that occur when the player does certain things to trigger them, such as moving too close to the creature or dealing damage to it. There are a little over thirty "boss" monsters in the game that have such powers, though not all are equally deadly when the player goes up against them. These are the ten deadliest legendary actions in Baldur's Gate 3 which have the most potential to wipe out your entire adventuring party.
10 Act One's Owlbear Can Call In Another Of Its Kind
Call Consort Will Catch Many Players Off-Guard
The Owlbear mother players can encounter early in act one is scary enough on its own that most players won't even attempt to fight the creature. After all, it remains ive so long as players don't get too close to its child. Still, even for players looking to fight something truly strong early on, they are likely in for a surprise against the Owlbear.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Get The Owlbear Cub
After defeating a dangerous Owlbear in Baldur's Gate 3, you can get the cub of this strange creature as a companion that travels with your character.
That's because, during combat, this beast may choose to call in , another one of her kind that leaps in from the upper levels of her cave and s the conflict. This new Owlbear has all the powers of its mate, and even gets a special bonus if the Owlbear Cub is killed. Needless to say, if one Owlbear is enough to challenge a low-level party, two are enough to crush them into the dust. So next time you think about bothering these ursine avians, maybe just leave them alone.
9 Gerringothe Thorm Can Incapacitate Your Party If You Aren't Careful
The Golden Touch of Sublimation
All the undead Thorms haunting the town of Reithwin have their own legendary actions that make them fearsome in combat, and Gerringothe's is particularly nasty. And most players won't ever see it, given the fact that this is an optional boss who can even be talked to death with some successful skill checks. But for those that do fight the tollmaster, make sure to keep your distance, lest you be turned to gold.
Players may also wish to deposit all of their gold in camp before starting this encounter, since Gerringothe's damage scales as the wealth of her target increases.
When a part of Gerringothe's golden armor is destroyed, she will use Sublimation, forcing foes within 15 feet to make a constitution saving throw. A failure will see that foe turned to gold, effectively incapacitated and paralyzed for four whole rounds of combat. This is devastating if it manages to affect multiple party , as those sublimated allies will be reduced to helpless statues, easily wiped out by Thorm and her golden halberds. Keeping a healthy distance from Gerringothe is key to avoiding her golden touch.
8 Grym's Defenses Become Even More Solid
Adamantine Reverberation Gives This Tank A Solid Counterattack
Grym, the giant construct guarding the Grymforge, is already a strong and cinematic enemy to face off against in one BG3's more gimmicky encounters. Using bludgeoning damage or the hammer in the center of the map is essential for taking this defender out, but it's difficult when he moves quickly and possesses a high AC. This fight only gets harder once you introduce Gym's legendary action, Adamantine Reverberation, which hurts and knocks back foes when it takes a certain amount of damage.
Essentially, after taking damage in a round, Grym gains 10 temporary hit points, increases its speed, and readies this action. When it loses those temporary hit points, the reverberation activates, knocking back all creatures within 15 feet and dealing thunder damage. Not only does this make it difficult to land melee attacks consistently, but it also runs the risk of knocking your party into the surrounding lava. Avoiding the molten floor is an important task to avoid being fried during this fight, and Grym knocking characters around makes that even harder.
7 The Underdark's Spectator Is Now Dangerous Beyond Its Initial Surprise Round
Ocular Nightmare Can Demolish Even Well-Positioned Parties
If players descend to the Underdark through the Goblin Camp, odds are that this Spectator will be the first foe they come across down there. It's substantially more dangerous than many other creatures in act one, especially since it always gets a surprise round on the party at the start of the fight. Still, after the initial shock of it appearing and the ambush attacks , whittling down the boss's health is not incredibly difficult. That is, unless you are playing on Honour Mode.

How To Get To The Underdark In Baldur's Gate 3
To reach the Underdark in Baldur's Gate 3, navigate through one of four efficient routes, and do your best to by the dangers along the way.
On this difficulty, whenever the Spectator takes damage, it gains a stack of Paranoid Dreams. This effect does nothing on its own, and its stacks go down each time it uses an eye ray. But if it gains five stacks, it immediately uses its legendary action: Ocular Nightmare. This attack will hit all enemies within 60 feet with all of its eye beams at once, possibly wounding, scaring, confusing, and paralyzing them. This effect can wipe out low-level parties all on its own, and even if it doesn't, it will set your party up to get killed on the monster's next turn.
6 Balthazar Gets Two Legendary Actions To Aid His Undead Army
The Dead Wastes And Spectral Aspect Let This Necromancer Live Up To His Reputation
The undead necromancer Balthazar is one of the only bosses in the game to get two different legendary abilities. Though notably, Balthazar seems reluctant to use either of them when confronted in his chambers in the Gauntlet of Shar, and will only bust them out in full force if fought inside the Shadowfell. The first, called The Dead Wastes, occurs when the player harms Balthazar or kills one of his underlings, and creates an area around the attacker that restricts their movement, cuts off their healing, causes damage over time, and heals nearby undead.
Balthazar can be defeated rather easily by sneaking up to the door to his study and casting the knock spell before entering combat, forcing him to the brawl with the undead sentries of Shar.
Multiple areas of the Dead Wastes can be created in a single combat, meaning that if the encounter lasts for multiple rounds, the entire battlefield could end up spotted with these zones of undeath. On top of that, Balathazar may choose to activate his Spectral Aspect when especially injured, increasing his damage resistances and allowing him to fly. He's a real menace when fighting with these powers at his disposal, and that's all the more reason to get him killed during the initial fight with Shar's defenses.
5 Cazador's Dungeon Becomes A Death Trap Thanks To His Bats
Vampiric Swarm Proves How Monstrous Cazador Can Be
The fight with Cazador Szarr in BG3's third act is already one of the toughest in the game, pitting the player against an army of undead and a vampire master. The buffs Cazador gets from his captive spawn make him powerful enough, but on Honour Mode, he gets another ability: Vampiric Swarm. This lets him summon a cloud of bats when he is hit, ramming into his attacker and any of their nearby allies.
This swarm knocks those it hits back quite a bit, potentially knocking them straight off of the platform where the fight takes place. If that doesn't happen, it still deals quite a bit of piercing damage, and heals Cazador each round for a few turns. Even in an act littered with tough fights, this legendary action manages to stick out as a real pain in the neck.
4 Mystic Carrion's Legendary Action Combines With His Spellcraft To Terrible Effect
Torrential Undeath Makes This Fight A Whole Lot Riskier
Mystic Carrions legendary action, Torrential Undeath, is similar in its deadliness. This mummy lord can send forth a cloud of necrotic energy when he or one of his underlings takes damage, affecting all non-undead it es through. It doesn't deal any damage directly, but it inflicts a terrible debuff: it makes players vulnerable to all damage for one turn, on top of being frightened.

One Awesome BG3 Spell Has An Unexpected Use You May Not Have Thought Of
Given the complexity of mechanics in Baldur’s Gate 3, players are still discovering that some spells can be used in unexpected and different ways.
This is especially bad when combined with the high damage output of Carrion's mummy servants and his unique spell, Explosive Cloudkill. On top of all of that, Torrential Undeath also buffs undead creatures it es through, giving them additional damage immunities and healing them. If players don't prepare for this before entering the mummy's lair, they may very well be wiped out by it.
3 Inquisitor W'wargaz Will Outnumber Your Party In A Heartbeat
Fighting Against The Mind-Claws Of Tu'Narath
For a fight that can happen so early in the game, the encounter with Inquisitor W'wargaz is one of the deadliest in the game. Not only does it put the player up against a handful of highly damaging Githyanki warriors, but it also sees them fighting the Mind'Claws of Tu'Narath. These psychic blades appear as a part of W'wargaz's legendary action of the same name, and appear as modified spiritual weapons whenever he or an ally is damaged. W'wargaz can summon several per round, and it can get to the point where close to a dozen of these things are fighting your party.
W'wargaz is technically an optional boss, as the entire Githyanki creche can be skipped, but doing so will cause Lae'zel to leave the party, and you will miss out on the earliest obtainable legendary weapon in the game.
Not only are these things fast and able to take opportunity attacks, but they can't be shoved or thrown, and will buff W'wargaz when they hit something. They make moving around the small battlefield a nightmare, and allow the Githyanki to reposition constantly and avoid damage while the party is whittled down. Parties really should be at least level five by the time they attempt this fight on Honour Mode, or this one legendary action will destroy them.
2 Sarevok Anchev Can Beat Down Even The Tankiest Of Characters
Murderous Retort Makes This Fight As Scary As It Should Be
Sarevok Anchev has a cameo of sorts during BG3's Bhaal plot line, appearing as the leader of Murder Tribunal and fighting the player unless they wish to become an Unholy Assassin. He's accompanied by the echoes of other servants of the murder god, and has all the powers befitting his station as the primary antagonist of previous parts of the series. He receives monumental buffs from his allies that make his melee capabilities unmatched in act three.
But his legendary action is nothing to scoff at, either. Sarevok can use Murderous Retort to teleport to an attacker and immediately attack them, putting ranged builds at a severe disadvantage and upping his melee damage output. But it gets even worse: If Sarevok's ive ability, Deathbringer's Legacy, is active when he uses this, he'll do more than take a single attack: he will take four. This combo is absolutely brutal, and can down even a high-level character if Sarevok rolls high enough with his damage dice.
1 Bhaal May Choose To End The Fight With Orin Himself
Godly Intervention Through Bhaal's Edict
Rarely does BG3 put the player up against an actual god, rather than just their Chosen. But it happens in act two with Myrkul, and again in act three if the player chooses to fight Orin and her congretation at Bhaal's temple. While Bhaal won't have a physical presence in the fight, at the beginning of each round, he will inflict a couple of conditions. He will buff Orin, his chosen, and on Honour Mode, he will choose a character to curse with Bhaal's Edict.

85% Of Baldur's Gate 3 Players Are Still Avoiding This Character, And I Know Why
A surprisingly low number of players are opting for this Baldur's Gate 3 Origin character and it could all be down to a misunderstanding.
This legendary action sentences a character to death. There is nothing they can do to avoid dying at the end of their next turn, except kill another creature directly. This can be an enemy or ally, but if it isn't done, the character will be dead. It's a fearsome power, though it can be avoided if the player chooses to duel Orin as the Dark Urge, since Bhaal will not intervene. Still, this is likely the scariest and deadliest legendary action in Baldur's Gate 3.
