Baldur's Gate 3 still stands as one of the best RPG experiences available, with a considerable player count to this day that shows little sign of slowing down anytime soon. Close to two years after its release, I'm still discovering new content and secrets that I completely missed in previous campaigns, with modded content adding even more possibilities to the mix. Even if the next official Baldur's Gate project doesn't reach the same heights without Larian Studios being involved, I'm confident that the legacy of Baldur's Gate 3 isn't going away anytime soon.
Despite not releasing any paid DLC for Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios hasn't held back from adding content that could have easily been packaged as expansions. Among plenty of updates and bug fixes galore to make the experience more enjoyable, the plethora of new subclasses recently added makes a new playthrough feel even more worthwhile. Even if you're tired of playing through the same story as before with new classes, the future of Baldur's Gate 3 is filled with exciting storytelling potential through -made content and even custom campaigns.
Larian Still Has No Plans To Add DLC To Baldurs Gate
The Future Of Baldur's Gate 3 Won't Come From Larian Studios
While Larian Studios' lack of interest in adding any form of paid DLC is far from a recent development, given its end BG3's historic run doesn't bode too well for the future of its player base.

10 Biggest Changes In Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8
Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 is the last of the major updates to the game, and it has some of the biggest changes yet among its long list of tweaks.
Thankfully, the state of Baldur's Gate 3's replayability isn't entirely grim, as of the community have started to create their own original experiences in the game world. Even before BG3 added official modding , its community of dedicated fans was already creating plenty of new content that added even more depth and variety to transform the gameplay experience or simply tweaked the vanilla game to run more seamlessly. Taking advantage of both BG3's official modding toolkit and countless assets, some fans have even begun creating original modules to run within Baldur's Gate 3.
Fans Have Already Started Making Their Own Custom Campaign Modules
Plenty Of Exciting Potential For The Future Of Baldur's Gate 3
While Baldur's Gate 3's modding started with the humble origins of simply adding new quests or weapons, multiple communities have created their very own custom campaigns that could rival traditional D&D modules. The size of each ongoing project varies greatly, but one of the largest is Path to Menzoberranzan, a custom campaign benefiting from the collaboration of hundreds of players with a team size that can rival the development of an entirely standalone game studio. While there have been plenty of ambitious BG3 mods in the past, major projects like these mark a significant turning point for BG3's history.
Despite Baldur's Gate 3 not officially ing the development of custom campaigns, the lack of resources clearly hasn't stopped numerous teams of dedicated modding creators from banding together to achieve what used to be thought of as an impossibility. With features like entirely original voice acting, new areas to explore, and new bonds to forge with entirely original companions, it seems there won't be a shortage of Baldur's Gate 3 content in the future.
Pre-Made Modules Offer Some Of D&D's Most Memorable Experiences
Carefully Crafted Campaigns Offer More Concise Storytelling Potential
It's entirely possible that you could have played the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop for years without ever making use of a pre-made adventure or module, but there's no denying that pre-made campaigns offer some of the best storytelling experiences the franchise has to offer. From simple one-session encounters to campaigns that run from level one to twenty, modules offer practically limitless storytelling and gameplay potential to suit every table.

Baldur's Gate 3 Modder Delivers The First Chapter Of A Custom Campaign Inspired By World of Warcraft
A creative Baldur's Gate 3 modder shares the first chapter of what's shaping up to be an exciting World of Warcraft-inspired custom campaign.
While there's been plenty of love for official modules like Curse of Strahd or Tomb of Annihilation over the years, there's no shortage of player-made campaigns that are just as enjoyable while offering unique takes on the formula. Even if the future looks bright for fan-made BG3 modules, it will likely be a significant wait before some of the more ambitious attempts at creating custom campaigns in BG3, like Path to Menzoberranzan and The Grand Theatre, are completed. Thankfully, there are several ready-to-play demos available for several modules, such as Shadow Curse Reborn and Forsaken.
There's plenty of potential to make the perfect BG3 follow-up.
Aside from more original projects being built from the ground up, several campaigns in the works attempt to adapt some of the best modules of the tabletop game into the immersive gameplay of BG3. Project Strahd is easily one of the most promising that comes to mind that incorporates one of D&D's most infamous modules straight into BG3, leaving players with little need for a sequel. Given that many BG3 players likely haven't experienced the iconic gothic horror adventure of Strahd for themselves, it's a fantastic way to bridge the gap between the two storytelling mediums.
There's Still Plenty Of Potential For Baldur's Gate 3 Without Larian's Involvement
Fan-Made Mods Aren't The Only Way To Experience D&D's Iconic Gameplay
Despite Baldur's Gate 3's content being officially over, there will still be ways to experience BG3's iconic characters through avenues like fan-made mods. Larian Studios has announced its departure from the official world of D&D after Baldur's Gate 3, but that also doesn't mean its CRPG days are over anytime soon. Whether crafting a new world, adapting another famous RPG franchise, or returning to the studio's roots with a third entry in the Divinity series, there's plenty of potential to make the perfect BG3 follow-up.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Will Finally Achieve Its Full D&D Potential, But There’s A Catch
D&D's virtual tabletop is on the horizon, leaving many players with more questions than answers after the latest trailers featuring Baldur's Gate 3.
I'll still be sad that Baldur's Gate 3 is finally reaching the end of its era, but the ion of the community and the limitless potential for storytelling in BG3 still offer a glimmer of hope. If you don't feel like waiting, you can always take the characters of BG3 onto the tabletop itself instead, facing off against the most exciting modules the franchise has to offer with your favorite companions.
Even without the custom campaigns, there are countless mods still being updated to add more replayability to the base game of BG3, with plenty of new ways to play the iconic CRPG in the years to come. While Larian Studios might not be adding more official content, I look forward to the day I can load up Baldur's Gate 3 once more to experience an entirely player-made module with the same level of excitement I had playing the base game for the first time.
