A licensed DC artist recently unveiled their unique take on Cassandra Cain’s Batgirl, featuring a brilliant design element that’s turning heads. However, this artwork has ignited intense debate online, and with the fandom split, it's already one of Cain’s most controversial costumes to date (but it also might be her best, too).

DC artist Nikola Čižmešija, known for his work on Sword of Azrael, Batman: Urban Legends, Future State: Gotham, and Batman and Robin, recently shared his design take on Cassandra Cain’s Batgirl on X. While there were critiques about the anatomy of the design and the creation process itself, the most captivating aspect of the conversation centered around the intriguing golden rings scattered throughout Cassandra’s suit.

Čižmešija portrays Cassandra in her familiar skin-tight black and yellow Batgirl costume, complete with her iconic yellow utility belt—reminiscent of Batman’s own—and stitched-mouth cowl. The overall design stays true to Cassandra’s usual look, which is why the bandage wrappings covering her gauntlets and the golden rings scattered across her suit stand out. The golden rings, in particular, left many fans wondering about their purpose. Thankfully, Čižmešija addressed the curiosity in the comments section of his original post, revealing that the rings serve a much deeper function than just an aesthetic choice.

In response to a fan who asked, “What’s up with the golden rings around her suit?” Čižmešija explained that the rings are actually attachment points for her cape. This addition of varying attachment points is both innovative and clever. No other member of the Bat-Family has such a feature, yet it makes perfect sense—these rings would allow the cape to function in multiple ways, whether to aid in her missions or simply to keep it out of her way. It’s an impressive and thoughtful design choice.

Fans would undoubtedly appreciate notes on the most effective attachments in different situations. Although this seems to be Čižmešija’s personal exploration of Batgirl’s design for now, it will be interesting to see if these cape attachment points ever become canon.
