He may be a man of the world, but even Batman isn't above losing his temper. The Dark Knight's emotions run deep, and that is never more apparent when it comes to his family. For guys like Superboy, Batman's focus can be a bit of an issue given their history with Batgirl. The truth is that many DC fans ship the younger heroes, and now, a hilarious piece of art proves Batman is not on board with the fan-favorite romance.
After all, superheroes might seem like godlike figures, but they're human. Heroes forge close friendships with others, and they fall in love like everyone else. So as you can imagine, Batman would have something to say should he ever catch Superman's half-clone Conner Kent holding hands with Batgirl.
Batman Is The Definition Of An Overprotective Father
The Caped Crusader Confronts a Fan-Favorite Romance
While Cassandra Cain hasn’t had as busy a love life as Batgirls Barbara Gordon or Stephanie Brown, she was always been sweet on one particular hero. In the early '00s, Batgirl met Superboy for the first time when Conner dropped by Gotham. As it turned out, the two heroes got along quite well. Not only did they vibe together, but the pair were amazing when fighting together. In fact, the two got along so well, they even tried dating to see if any sparks flew.
Conner and Cass met for the first time in Superboy #85.
The two’s first (and only) date was seen in Batgirl #41, where Cassandra tracks down Conner to the Kent Farm in Smallville, allowing the two spend the evening together. They have a fun date that everything a pair of superhero teens could want, from flying through the skies to fighting side-by-side. However, at the end of the date, the two decided they’d work better as friends. Cassandra and Connor have remained friends in the years following, but many fans still wonder what it would have been like had Superboy and Batgirl continued dating.
The artwork shows Superboy carrying Batgirl in his arms and catching the two in their private moment is Batman...
Now, thanks to some art by Be123be_be, we have a good idea of just how things might have progressed had Cassandra and Conner continued their romance. The fan-art shows Superboy carrying Batgirl in his arms, but catching the two in this private moment is Batman, who looms over the young couple. Bruce isn’t happy with what he sees while Batgirl is fuming over her time with Superboy being interrupted. Talk about a ruined moment.
Batman Cares... But Maybe A Bit Too Much
It's Funny Seeing Batman Play the Overprotective Dad
Now, would Batman actually go into full Dad Mode if a member of the Bat-Family began dating another hero? Well, probably not. After all, Dick Grayson infamously dated Starfire, and Batman never said two words about it. Still, the stereotype exists of dads being more protective of their daughters for a reason. Cassandra may not be Bruce Wayne's daughter by blood, but he would most definitely have a file on any of her lovers - Superboy included.
Batman would want Batgirl to know she deserves respect in every kind of relationship, romantic or not.
Still, it is funny seeing Batman transform into an overprotective dad here. It shows he does care about all of his sidekicks as if they were his own flesh and blood. Even if Cassandra wouldn’t have to worry about someone as sweet as Conner, Batman would want her to know that she deserves respect and to be treated right... even if it means embarrassing the hell out of her in front of her love interest. Superboy and Batgirl might not be an official item, but this viral art is a great reminder that Batman would have Cassandra's back if they were.
