A Battlefield 2042 player has discovered the game's hovercrafts can easily be driven all the way up sheer walls and other tall structures. Battlefield 2042 is the first futuristic game in the series since Battlefield 2142 15 years ago, and it brings the series to a near-future climate crisis setting - with a few new vehicles to boot.

Many people have already played Battlefield 2042 in a limited capacity, going back to the closed technical alpha held in early August. While there was a handful of gameplay details that emerged from that period, it was followed by the open beta in October for customers who pre-ordered the game and EA Play/Xbox Game subscribers. The Battlefield 2042 beta was EA's most successful early access event ever and led to some interesting discoveries, with over seven million players tinkering with the game's mechanics. Now, even more possibilities are being uncovered as Battlefield 2042's early access release version becomes available to a new wave of players.

Posting on Reddit, a player going by ztsnyder has found that Battlefield 2042 hovercrafts can climb up almost any flat surface. This doesn't require an exploit or anything; ztsnyder shows how their squad drove straight up the side of a skyscraper and other structures (including a rocket) with minimal effort. It looks like the trick is easy to reproduce, as well, since they were able to do it multiple times in a match. The players even climb a radio tower using this method, meaning that it can be replicated on very narrow surfaces.

EA Play and Xbox Game subscribers can currently play Battlefield 2042 free for 10 hours, allowing many more players into the early access period to try out tricks like this for themselves. The 1-hour trial begins today, November 12, and any progress made during that time will carry over to the full version. Those who purchased Battlefield 2042's Gold or Ultimate editions can also play the multiplayer game as of today, and the standard edition of the game will unlock next week on November 19.

Despite Battlefield 2042's persistent data errors and other early technical issues, the series community is already finding fun and innovative new things to do in the game. This hovercraft trick in particular has a lot of potential applications, like easily attacking hard-to-reach control points and jumping across large sections of a map. One can only hope that this doesn't get patched out - it's not exactly game-breaking, and players will likely find plenty of clever uses for it in the future. If all the famous shenanigans of Battlefield 3's fighter jets were allowed to remain in the game, then climbing hovercrafts may survive, too.
