10 Solo Leveling

Animated by A-1 Pictures, Based on the Web Novel by Chugong

One of 2024's hottest new series, Solo Leveling returned with a vengeance in 2025, making quite the early bid for anime of the year. Throughout its second season, titled -Arise from the Shadows-, the series stole streaming records left and right, and built upon the already rapidly growing fan base it gained following its debut. Now that Solo Leveling has wrapped up its highly acclaimed sophomore outing, there's no better time for fans to catch up than now.

The journey of the supposed "world's weakest hunter", Sung Jinwoo, has captivated audiences and taken them on a power fantasy journey brimming with style. Offering some of the best visuals anime fans will find aside from theatrical releases, Solo Leveling has been impressive on just about every front, and just recently became Crunchyroll's most popular title. Any unfamiliar anime fan curious what the hype is about can watch both seasons one and two on the platform.

9 The Apothecary Diaries

Animated by OLM and Toho Animation Studio, Based on the Light Novel Series by Natsu Hyuga

Solo Leveling wasn't the only series to dominate the 2025 winter anime season. The Apothecary Diaries, based on the original light novel by Natsu Hyuga, became a sensation within the anime-watching community during the airing of its first two-cour season in 2023. Its second season premiered in January, and is scheduled to run until early June 2025, with the second of its two-cour season set to begin April 4.

Following a girl named Maomao, who worked as an apothecary in the red-light district of an ancient China-inspired setting before being sold to the Imperial Palace as an indentured servant, The Apothecary Diaries offers a blend of drama, romance, and comedy that has left fans glued to their screens each week. There's still plenty of time before Season Two reaches its finale, making now the perfect time to catch up on one of anime's hottest new titles.

8 Kaiju no. 8

Animated by Production I.G, Based on the Manga by Naoya Matsumoto

One of 2024's top new series and what appears to be another Shōnen Jump anime hit, Kaiju no. 8 is set to return with a second season in July 2025. Being met with acclaim for what was an incredibly exciting debut season, Kaiju no. 8 offers all the sci-fi action fans of the genre might be looking for, while standing out among its shōnen contemporaries. The series was met with a massive boom in popularity due to the airing of its anime adaptation in 2024, even becoming the central focus of a Fortnite collaboration.

Rather than following the usual teenage protagonist, the series puts 32-year-old Kafka Hibino in the driver's seat, and sets the story in a world where kaiju are a common everyday issue. The series' characters, setting, and overall tone set it apart from other popular shōnen titles, and fans can take the chance to experience the unique series before it returns later this year.

7 Chainsaw Man

Animated by MAPPA, Based on the Manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto

It's been nearly three years since Chainsaw Man's debut took the anime community by storm, and the long-awaited follow-up to MAPPA's masterful first season has finally been confirmed for a September 2025 release date. The Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc is set to continue right where the anime left off in 2022, and adapt one of the series' most popular arcs.

The series that ushered in the next generation of shōnen manga and forever changed the landscape of Shōnen Jump, Chainsaw Man's return is finally on the horizon, and fans might need a refresher before the film's release later this year. There's no better time than now to jump back into the cold and unforgiving world of Chainsaw Man, and become reacquainted with the power trio of Denji, Aki, and Power.

6 Dandadan

Animated by Science Saru, Based on the Manga by Yukinobu Tatsu

The biggest new anime series of 2024, Dandadan stepped into the spotlight last October and completely dominated online discourse and ratings. Leaving its first season behind on a massive cliffhanger, Dandadan is slated to return in July 2025 with an all-new season that many predict will be a strong candidate for anime of the year. The strange supernatural action shōnen with a sprinkle of romance took the world by surprise, and now fans eagerly await its continuation.

Set to cover the manga's Evil Eye arc, studio Science Saru will have their work cut out for them, given the section's elaborate battles and incredibly detailed artwork. With how impressive Dandadan's first season was, however, it's likely the studio will knock the adaptation out of the park once more in its sophomore outing. Until the summer anime season arrives, the series is available to stream for any fans who may need to catch up.

5 mono

Animated by Soigne and Aniplex, Based on the Manga by Afro

An all-new slice of life series from the creator of Laid-Back Camp, mono is set to premiere on Crunchyroll on April 12, 2025. One of the quieter releases of the season, the new series follows Satsuki, An, and Sakurako as the endangered Photography and Cinema Clubs combine into one Cinephoto Club. The three girls are then asked to be main characters in a manga series being written by another character named Haruno.

If the series is anything like Laid-Back Camp, viewers will be in for an undeniably relaxing and healing experience, with just an extra sprinkling of comedy. The original mono manga is drawn in a four- format, which allows animation studios to have heavy creative freedom with their adaptation. Recent history has shown that other recent four- manga adaptations, like Bocchi the Rock!, can be incredibly successful.

4 My Hero Academia: Vigilantes

Animated by Bones, Based on the Manga by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court

With My Hero Academia's final season creeping ever nearer, the spin-off series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, is set to premiere on April 7, 2025. Taking place 5 years before the events of the main series, the all-new anime will expand on the ever-popular My Hero Academia while attempting to answer some of the questions longtime fans of the series have been waiting to have insight into.

The anime will follow main character Koichi Haimawari, who dives into the world of vigilantism after being unable to become a licensed hero. Flanked by recognizable characters like All Might and Eraserhead, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is shaping up to be a must-watch show for fans of the main series.

3 Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc

Set to premiere on Crunchyroll on April 5, 2025, Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc is the highly anticipated continuation of the long-running franchise. Taking Ciel and demon butler Sebastian into a mysterious village, the season promises to adapt one of the spookiest arcs from Yana Toboso's original manga. The series will likely contain 10–13 episodes based on the previous Public School Arc.

Fans can look forward to an adaptation that sticks close to the source material, after previous seasons of Black Butler deviated from the events of Toboso's original manga. Set to feature an eerie, supernatural adventure, longtime fans of the franchise won't want to miss the continuation of the near 20-year-old series.

2 Fire Force

Animated by David Production, Based on the Manga by Atsushi Ohkubo

Set to adapt what many believe to be the best stretch of Atsushi Ohkubo's original manga, Fire Force Season Three will premiere on Crunchyroll on April 5, 2025. The final season of the incredibly popular series is split into two cours, with the second planned to premiere in January 2026. Season Three is set to pick up exactly where the previous season left off, and first dive into the Obi Rescue arc.

Some fans have expressed concern over whether one split cour season would be enough runtime to cover all remaining material. While that largely remains to be seen, the latest trailer for the season did prove that Fire Force will bring an incredibly impressive visual quality to its final stretch of episodes, finishing the series in style.

1 One Piece

Animated by Toei Animation, Based on the Manga by Eiichiro Oda

Following an unprecedented, extended hiatus that began back in October of last year, One Piece is set to resume on April 6, 2025, with part two of its Egghead arc. Alongside the premiere of its episodes #1123 and #1124, an 83-minute-long recap of the events of the Egghead arc thus far will also air. Set to cover a few of the arc's biggest moments in its premiere, One Piece is certainly going all-out to kick off its long-awaited return.

2025 is gearing up to be one of the most exciting years of anime in quite some time, with both new and returning series headlining a stacked lineup of releases. As the industry shifts into the next season, it's likely One Piece's return will dominate the spotlight this spring.
