Video games, whether action RPGs such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land, often offer more to players than just the main story. To keep players hooked, games would often have side quests or minigames that are fun to do but do not affect the progression of the game.
Another element that entices players to fully explore a game environment is collectibles. While these aren’t essential to completing the game, collectibles do add an extra layer of enjoyable content. From The Darkness II’s relics to the action figures in Doom, some game collectibles are more fun to collect compared to others.
Ape Escape Monkeys (Metal Gear Solid 3)
One of Hideo Kojima's best-received games, Metal Gear Solid 3 follows the agent Naked Snake and his mission to save a Russian scientist and assassinate his former boss. Despite the urban setting of the game, Metal Gear Solid 3 still retains some of Kojima's signature humor and quirkiness.
There's a mini-game included in the game where players need to explore the Russian jungle to find and capture monkeys for a professor. By collecting all the monkeys, the player receives a rather useless monkey mask that disrupts their vision and doesn't add anything to their camo rating. Despite that, it is a fun side activity to knock out and collect the primates in the game.

Thankfully, fans of other adored game characters can see them as collectible Spirits in the game. These Spirits also act as a power-up that boosts the stats of a playable character. There are about 1513 collectible spirits in the game, which includes recognizable characters like Squirtle and K.K. Slider.
Action Figures (Doom)
In 2016, the game Doom was soft rebooted and changed the backstory of the Doom Slayer. In the game, players assume the role of an ancient warrior who finds himself in the middle of a demonic invasion in Mars. Apart from killing demons and clearing out difficult levels, gamers can also find collectible action figures in the game.
These collectibles are supposedly manufactured by the UAC, which is the multi-planetary conglomerate that has established structures on Mars. The action figures don't grant any special power-ups to the player, but collecting all 26 action figures in the game bequeaths the player with the achievement called "Every Nook and Cranny".
Blue Medallions (Resident Evil 4)

DK Coins (Donkey Kong Country 3)
There are a lot of great Donkey Kong games that feature the iconic character doing various tasks such as clearing platforming levels and solving puzzles. The platform game Donkey Kong Country 3 doesn't focus on the character all gamers know and love, but instead features the female Kong Dixie Kong and her cousin Kiddy Kong.
While DK Coins have also appeared in other Donkey Kong games, the collectibles in Donkey Kong Country 3 are perhaps the most fun to look for. The DK Coins in the game encourage exploration and are fairly predictable since one appears on every level. By getting all the DK Coins in the game, the players can obtain a Gyrocopter from Funk.
Gold Bolts (Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart)
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is the sixteenth entry in the popular third-person shooter game. The game has one of the most iconic duos in the world of gaming, Ratchet, a skilled mechanic and intergalactic hero, and Clank, a robot who provides Ratchet with useful tools and gadgets.
In Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, gamers can collect Gold Bolts, which can provide players with new cheats and mods, such as infinite health and ammo, or even brand-new weapon skins. There are about 25 Gold Bolts that players can look for across the nine levels of the game.
Moons (Super Mario Odyssey)

Based on the comic book series created by Top Cow Productions, The Darkness II is a shooter game that revolves around a mafia hitman named Jackie Estacado. What makes Jackie a good hitman is his mysterious power called "The Darkness" which allows him to harness supernatural abilities and Demon Arms which can slash enemies with ease.
The Darkness II showcases collectibles known as relics. There aren't a lot of relics to gather in the game, but each relic reveals more of the game's lore. The lore is voice acted by the ing characters of the game and allows the players to learn more about the mysterious world of Jackie.
Bobbleheads (Fallout 3)
Released in 2008, Fallout 3 is a survival role-playing game from Bethesda Games. Set in a post-apocalyptic region in America, Fallout 3 showcases the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse. In the game, players assume the role of a vault inhabitant who needs to find their father after he disappears from the vault.
Fallout 3 features collectible bobbleheads that increase the player's attributes as well as enhance their skills. Aside from being an important aspect that can help the players easily finish the game, the bobbleheads can also be displayed and ired by the player in their vault.
