DeHaan plays the lead role, Lockhart, in the horror drama, a young executive sent to a "wellness center" to retrieve his company's CEO. However, he soon discovers that the supposed spa treatments are not what they seem.

This psychological fantasy stars Jason Isaacs and Mia Goth, alongside DeHaan, bringing a trifecta of talent to this dark exposé. Disturbing imagery and chemical cinematography come together to create a satisfying thriller with a surprising twist ending.

Kill Your Darlings (2013) - 6.5

Ben Foster, Daniel Radcliffe, and Dane DeHaan in Kill Your Darlings

DeHaan plays Lucien Carr in Kill Your Darlings, directed by John Krokidas in his major directorial debut. The film centers around a murder in 1944, which leads to some of the most prolific poets of the 1940s coming together through a dark academia aesthetic lens.

DeHaan's portrayal of Carr, a prominent member of the Beat Generation, is spot-on and is strengthened by his amazing co-stars, including Daniel Radcliffe, Elizabeth Olsen, and Michael C. Hall. Jack Huston playing the infamous Jack Kerouac creates an incredible cinematic dynamic.

Another star-studded cast, DeHaan is accompanied by Cara Delevigne, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, and Clive Owen. Given Besson's impressive resumé with science-fiction adaptations, the rating may be somewhat surprising to fans.

Following in the footsteps of Andrew Garfield's best movies, which boosts how great DeHaan and Garfield mesh as on-screen best friends.

The menace that ultimately kills Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and teams up with Electro (Jamie Foxx) brings a different take on the previous Sam Raimi trilogy with Harry Osborn transforming into the ominous Green Goblin instead of his father, Norman.

Leap! (2016) - 6.8

Two characters from the movie Leap flying

The only animated film on this list, Leap! tells the classic tale of a young girl in a small town who has a big dream. DeHaan's character Victor is voiced alongside Elle Fanning and Maddie Ziegler and the movie's ranking is surely a reflection of the everlasting underdog story as the characters overcome obstacles and persevere.

Director Eric Summer's directorial resumé primarily consists of French titles, which makes it more impressive to sign on prominent stars such as these for an American premiere. With this film, DeHaan successfully added voice acting to his repertoire.

Chronicle (2012) - 7.0

While the 2012 film Chronicle only has a 7.0 on IMDb, it continues to be a cult favorite among dark science-fiction fans. When three high school friends make a discovery that gives them superpowers, they must adjust to their new abilities and question what to do with them. DeHaan perfectly plays the troubled one of the trio, Andrew Detmer, and transforms into the out-of-control, power-hungry villain.

Strengthening the film's dynamic are Michael B Jordan, Alex Russell, and Michael Kelly. Director Josh Trank knew what he was doing casting DeHaan as the unbalanced, rage-filled teen.

Perhaps the most diverse of DeHaan's roles on this list, Metallica Through the Never tells the tale of Trip (DeHaan), a young roadie for the title band. Trip is sent on a mission that quickly turns into an incredibly bizarre experience.

The music-driven film stars the real of Metallica and is directed by Nimród Antal. Given the long-time worldwide sensation of this band, it's no surprise that the movie ranks high on this list. With its apocalyptic themes, a masked figure on horseback, and a city on fire, the film is literally a trip.

Lawless (2012) - 7.3

Charley whispering into Cricket's ear in Lawless

Even though it received a lot of promotion, Lawless quickly slipped under the radar and is still an underrated film. DeHaan plays Cricket Pate in tandem with an incredibly stacked cast including Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, and Jessica Chastain.

The film satisfyingly tells the tale of three bootlegging brothers in Franklin County, Virginia, in the Depression era, with another fantastic gangster role played by Tom Hardy. When authorities and a new deputy begin to become a threat to their way of life, they must take matters into their own hands. The movie is directed by John Hillcoat of The Road fame.

Lincoln (2012) - 7.3

First and Second White Soldier in Lincoln

Legendary director Steven Spielberg brought an intricate biopic to the big screens with 2012's Daniel Day Lewis's best movies of his career, with DeHaan cast as a soldier.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sally Field help carry the adaptation of Abraham Lincoln's prolific influence on America. While DeHaan doesn't play a central character in Lincoln, it's undoubtedly an honor to be in any role in a Spielberg movie.

The Place Beyond The Pines (2012) - 7.3

In another project from 2012, DeHaan had a busy and successful year and plays Jason in the story of a motorcycle stunt driver who is forced to turn to bank robbing to provide for his girlfriend and their infant child while being challenged by a corrupt police department.

Bradley Cooper, Ben Mendelsohn, and Mahershala Ali contribute to the deeply dramatic story. Directed by Derek Cian, The Place Beyond the Pines is two and a half hours of intriguing crime thrills.
