The explosive growth that the isekai genre has experienced over the past few years cannot be underestimated, with every season containing multiple exciting new stories that take viewers to a different world. While anime like Mushoku Tensei, Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World, and KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! are the faces of the genre, Shangri-La Frontier absolutely deserves more attention for a plethora of reasons.

After the release of the successful season 2 of Shangri-La Frontier, a third season was announced to be in the works shortly after. This is incredible, given just how quick the release of the past two seasons has been. For reference, there was only a gap of seven months between the end of season 1 and the beginning of season 2. Furthermore, each season had 25 episodes, which is unheard of and can only mean the production schedule of the project was fantastic. With season 3 now on the way, Shangri-La Frontier is only going to get much better, and anime fans should seriously consider giving it a shot.

Shangri-La Frontier Is A Breath Of Fresh Air

The Anime Stands Out In The Sea Of Isekai

Rakurou Hizutome has an interesting hobby of playing bad games and beating them. Known in the gaming world as Sunraku, he is suggested to try out Shangri-La Frontier, a popular virtual reality title, as a change from the games he's been playing. When he begins the game, Rakurou trades most of his initial equipment for extra cash, leaving him with a bird helmet and weapons. While he does progress gradually, the master gamer finds the game is not as easy as he thought it would be and thus begins his quest to beat a game that actually requires some effort from him.

While the RPG-based story is certainly not unique, given the success of many other series like Sword Art Online, Overlord, and Log Horizon, there is a very real argument as to why Shangri-La Frontier nails the gaming mechanisms and aspects more than these series. It sticks to its core throughout, and coupled with extremely strong animation and production, the series is an absolute joy to watch if you love video games. Very few anime replicate the gaming experience as well as Shangri-La Frontier, and the series deserves praise for it.

There's More To Come From The Amazing RPG Series

With more than 100 chapters until the anime catches up to the manga and even more chapters from the light novel, Shangri-La Frontier is here to stay for a long time, and season 3 will be amazing, given the cliffhanger season 2's finale concluded at. With the battle tournament now heating up, the series deserves more eyes on it as the payoff to all this buildup is finally delivered.
