June 2025 is starting strong with some exciting movies arriving in theaters, accompanying some of May's biggest releases. So far, 2025 has continued 2024's successful streak on the big screen. Now that 2025 has reached its mid-point, it's worth taking a look back at some of the biggest theatrical releases so far, but even more exciting are all the movies from different genres that are coming in the second half of the year – and summer 2025 will be packed with exciting movies.

The final days of May saw the release of a new Karate Kid movie with Karate Kid: Legends, the latest Wes Anderson movie (with an all-star cast, of course) titled The Phoenician Scheme, and the horror movie Bring Her Back, by the directors of Talk To Me. ing these and some of May's biggest theatrical hits this weekend is a survival horror movie involving sharks and the highly anticipated John Wick spinoff.

10 Ballerina

The John Wick saga keeps growing, and its next step is the spinoff From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. Set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, Ballerina centers on Eve Macarro, a ballerina (of course!) who is trained in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roman. When Eve goes on a mission to avenge her father’s death, she comes across some of the most dangerous assassins and criminals in the world. Ballerina is the fifth entry in the John Wick movie franchise.

9 Dangerous Animals

Dangerous Animals Was Released On June 6, 2025

Dangerous Animals is a survival horror movie directed by Sean Byrne. Dangerous Animals follows a young surfer who becomes the target of a deeply disturbed serial killer named Tucker. What Tucker does is kidnap his victims, trap them in his boat, and feed them to the sharks. Now on the boat with another victim, the surfer must find a way to outwit Tucker before they have a very painful and gruesome death.

8 Karate Kid: Legends

Karate Kid: Legends is the sixth installment in the Karate Kid franchise. Karate Kid: Legends is set three years after the events of Cobra Kai, and it follows kung fu prodigy Li Fong as he relocates to New York City. Fong begins to attract unwanted attention from a local karate champion, motivating him to enter the ultimate karate competition, for which he will count on the help of Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso.

7 The Phoenician Scheme

Wes Anderson’s latest project is the espionage black comedy The Phoenician Scheme. It’s the story of Zsa-zsa Kordan, a wealthy businessman who appoints his only daughter, Liesl, who is a nun, as his sole heir. When Kordan embarks on a new enterprise, he and Liesl become the target of some colorful villains, terrorists, and assassins, making way for the type of tangled, humorous conflict that can be found in Wes Anderson’s movies.

6 Bring Her Back

Bring Her Back is a horror movie directed by Danny and Michael Philippou. Bring Her Back tells the story of a brother and a sister living with their foster mother, Laura, after the death of their mother. There, they meet Oliver, a young boy who also lost his mother and will now live with Laura, too. However, the siblings soon make a disturbing discovery as Laura is revealed to be keeping a horrifying secret, and, unfortunately, Oliver is trapped in the middle of it.

5 Lilo & Stitch

Lilo & Stitch Was Released on May 23, 2025

Now ing the trend of live-action remakes over at Disney is Lilo & Stitch. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, Lilo & Stitch follows Lilo, a six-year-old orphan living with her 18-year-old sister and legal guardian, Nani. Despite Nani’s efforts, Lilo feels lonely, and one night, a spaceship carrying an alien experiment crashes on Earth. Lilo adopts the alien as her dog and names it “Stitch”, and while they bond and redefine the concept of “family” along with Nani, there are not-so-friendly aliens wanting to take Stitch away.

4 Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Was Released on May 23, 2025

The eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible movie series has arrived, and it has all the action that is expected from a movie from this world. The Final Reckoning follows IMF Agent Ethan Hunt on a mission to stop Gabriel, an assassin linked to Hunt’s past, before the IMF gets to him. Gabriel’s plans are to get his hands on an AI program that will allow him to weaken the world’s stability, so it’s up to Hunt to save the world one final time.

3 Final Destination Bloodlines

Final Destination Bloodlines Was Released On May 16, 2025

The Final Destination franchise is back with its sixth installment, which will make the audience question what they thought they knew about Death and its rules. Bloodlines follows Stefani, who has a recurring nightmare of a major disaster – except that it happened decades ago, and it was her grandmother who had the vision and saved many people. Now, decades later, Death is coming after Stefani’s family as they shouldn’t have been born, so it’s up to Stefani to find a way to cheat death and save her family.

Friendship is a dark comedy written and directed by Andrew DeYoung in his directorial debut. Friendship is the story of Craig, a man living with his wife and who has trouble socializing. When his new neighbor, Austin, invites Craig over for a drink and introduces him to his friends, Craig finally feels accepted and part of a group of friends, so when Austin tells him they can’t be friends anymore, Craig can’t and won’t accept it, and will go to disturbing lengths to not lose his friends.

1 Thunderbolts*

Thunderbolts* Was Released On May 2, 2025

The latest entry in the MCU is Thunderbolts*. Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts* follows Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, U.S. Agent, Taskmaster, Red Guardian, and Ghost, who are led into a deadly trap by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The purpose of this is to force them into becoming a team that she can send on a dangerous mission that could redeem them. On top of that, they must face a dangerous threat that turns everyone into shadows and engulfs the city in supernatural darkness.

Thunderbolts* is the final movie in the MCU’s Phase Five.
