Since Patch 8 of Baldur's Gate 3, many players have been disappointed that there will likely be no more major updates to the current content in the game, especially when so much has been removed from the original concept. Several plotlines have been cut short, and some explorable areas like Avernus and the Upper City never saw the light of day. Larian being able to focus on refining BG3's story instead of convoluting it with unnecessary filler was great for the overall quality of the game, but it's still interesting to think about how different it could've been.
A lot has changed since BG3's time in early access, and some players may have realized that certain things from this development period are missing. Luckily, thanks to the efforts of the community, players can now unlock old material that's usually not accessible in the current release. This can be done entirely from the in-game menu, and, thanks to the mod manager, doesn't require any external software.

Modding Tools Can Introduce Cut Content Back Into The Game
Baldur's Gate 3 is a quick and easy way to change up your experience, however you see fit, but a lot of these changes won't feel very authentic. Since modders can't exactly request voice lines or make major changes to the plot, a lot of modded races and classes won't be as immersive compared to the ones in the base game. The same can be said for cleric deities - modders have introduced various gods and goddesses from different pantheons, but they can't add much more than alignment tags.
You don't necessarily have to play a cleric to unlock this content. There are several mods which allow you to choose deities for characters of any class to worship. I tested "The Dead Three As Deities" and "All classes get gods (deities, god, deity for all)" by termin8torr together, and they worked just fine, but some options will still be locked behind cleric/paladin class.
Despite this, some modders have been able to work with existing files to bring fans the content they've been begging to see in the game again since the end of Early Access. Originally, players were able to choose Bane, Bhaal, Myrkul, and Shar as cleric deities, but this was cut for the official release. This choice makes a lot of sense regarding the Dead Three, especially considering the Dark Urge's backstory. However, you could argue that cutting Shar is odd considering Vlaakith is still an option for githyanki clerics.
By ing certain mods, players are now able to choose these gods as deities again, unlocking all of their dialogue tags, which are unused in the base game. This is great news for anyone who missed early access, or those who want to try something new but are unsatisfied with the current choices for add-ons. A cleric of Bhaal is simultaneously a perfect and confusing combination for a Dark Urge character, since while they're obviously a bhaalspawn, they are also completely unaware of their origins. Reddit thrwaway23456nbayb pointed out how much unique content this allows you to access.
Trigger Never-Before-Seen Content With The Mod Manager
The Voice Lines Are Still In The Files And Fit Seamlessly Into The Game
These dialogue tags are fully working, and can trigger voice lines which you can't experience without mods. For example, as a cleric, the player is able to say a prayer for Aradin's lost comrades in Act One. Every deity has a unique dialogue option during this interaction, and Aradin has different responses for prayers to Shar and each of the Dead Three. Myrkul's is actually very different from the prayer which can be given by a cleric of Kelemvor, which shows how their beliefs differ despite having similar portfolios.
Deity |
Prayer |
---|---|
Shar |
I commend them to the darkness. When night falls, let them be forgotten. |
Bane |
The Black Hand strikes, and culls the unworthy. Yield in life, lest he reaches for you, even in death. |
Bhaal |
Lord of Murder, I dedicate their blood to you. Praise those who spilled it! |
Myrkul |
These vessels are a reminder that death walks behind each of us, every day. None can outrun him. Praise Myrkul. |
Auntie Ethel also has some interesting choice words for a cleric of Shar or the Dead Three standing up to her while she's in her human disguise. You can obviously still unlock Sharran dialogue if you're playing Shadowheart as an origin character, but there's a lot of fun content when it comes to interacting with her as a party member. Making a custom Sharran character is particularly interesting in Act Two, though you should note that you can't kill the Nightsong by yourself. Even if the player is a Sharran cleric, only Shadowheart is able to wield the spear.

Another fun exchange can occur if you interact with the Kuo-Toa and "BOOAL" as a worshiper of Bhaal. There are a few continuity issues when it comes to these gods which may break immersion - especially Myrkul, considering you fight his Apostle. Despite this, the new content is worth cooking up some reasons why your Tav may feel compelled to go against the Absolute. Perhaps they wish to gain their favor through a show of reckless strength - a Baneite may want to eliminate Ketheric and Orin, allowing their god to take all the power for themselves.
Which Baldur’s Gate 3 Mods Unlock Old Dialogue Tags?
You Can Unlock Shar, The Dead Three, Or All Four At Once
There are currently four mods available in the manager which allow players to choose any of the cut deity choices. The first mod unlocks all worshipable deities from EA as well as Jergal and Silvanus. Unfortunately, there isn't any unique content from early access for clerics who follow these two deities, so this won't come with the same experience as the other gods mentioned. There are also plenty of add-ons available for extra deity-inspired clothes, so your Tav can be as authentic as possible.

The only downside to these mods is that they'll only work up to a certain point - for example, I tried killing Shadowheart to take out the Nightsong myself as a Sharran, but didn't get any unique dialogue from Aylin. You can still formulate some interesting stories around this, but just keep in mind that the content is still relatively unpolished. Baldur's Gate 3 is already filled to the brim with story potential and customization, and with the capability of mods alongside the new Patch 8 subclasses, there's more reason to start a new campaign than ever.
