The Big Brother fans vote every season for a player who deserves to win the coveted title of America's Favorite Houseguest, but that choice doesn't always have to do with having the highest number of competition wins in the season. The tradition of handing out America's Favorite Player awards began all the way back on Big Brother 7, which was the series' first-ever All-Stars season. At the time, Janelle Pierzina went on to place third for a second consecutive year, which prompted the public to vote for her to win AFH/AFP. Alas, the award did not return for BB8.
After the viewers asked for America's Favorite Player to become a part of the show going forward, the producers brought it back for Big Brother 9. Since then, every new season of the show has had its own AFP winner, which is always decided by the public's vote. While it is true that all America's Favorites make a big splash - one way or another - during their seasons, it isn't always about being the most competitive player or the most game-savvy person on the show. More often than not, the fans vote purely on entertainment value, and each contestant's Diary Room confessionals are a big part of that.
Nonetheless, most of the players who have won America's Favorite Houseguest on Big Brother did win plenty of competitions during each of their respective seasons. Overall, Janelle Pierzina still holds the record for most competition wins among AFH winners. On BB7 alone, Janelle won four Head of Household comps and five Power of Veto comps, for a total of nine competition wins. Tied in second place are BB14's Frank Eudy and BB20's Tyler Crispen, each of whom won six comps in their respective seasons. In third place comes BB9's James Zinkand, who won five comps on the show.
The list goes on to include the America's Favorite Players who won four competitions in a season of Big Brother. That includes BB12's Britney Haynes, BB16's Donny Thompson, BB17's James Huling, and BB18's Victor Arroyo. In turn, Keesha Smith (BB10), Jeff Schroeder (BB11 and BB13), Elissa Slater (BB15), and Nicole Anthony (BB21) all won three competitions during their respective seasons as AFH winners. The AFP winners with the fewest competition wins are BB19's Cody Nickson and BB22's Da'Vonne Rogers.
When it comes to Big Brother, the fans are always ready and willing to expect the unexpected. Hopefully, BB23 will provide the fans with the level of entertainment and gameplay that they have been wanting for many years.
