Summary
- The odds of a Big Hero 6 sequel happening are low due to director Don Hall's exclusive control over the decision-making process.
- Don Hall has not shown much interest in making sequels in the past, indicating that a Big Hero 6 sequel is unlikely.
- Despite fan interest, recent updates suggest that Hall's focus on new projects makes a Big Hero 6 sequel improbable.
A Big Hero 6 sequel would be made, especially considering there was a post-credits scene teasing future adventures for Hiro and Baymax.
In the 10 years since the original movie's release, the odds of a Big Hero 6 sequel happening have fluctuated. Now, producer Roy Conli has revealed the only condition for Big Hero 6 getting a sequel. Conli stated that director Don Hall is ultimately responsible for deciding if a sequel gets made. Since "it was Don's concept and idea" as Conli put it, Disney is not pursuing another Big Hero 6 movie without his involvement. This condition is likely not a good sign for the eventual release of a Big Hero 6 sequel.

Pixar's $1.2 Billion Hit Proves An Underrated 10-Year-Old Disney Superhero Movie Still Needs A Sequel
An underrated Disney superhero movie still hasn't gotten a sequel after 10 years, and Pixar's $1.2 billion hit proved it is still worth doing.
What Don Hall Has Said About The Chances Of A Big Hero 6 Sequel
Hall Has Talked About Its Status Over The Years
If Don Hall is truly the deciding factor in whether a Big Hero 6 sequel is made, what he has said about the possibility over the last 10 years becomes much more important. He spoke to Creative Screenwriting in 2014 at the time of the film's premiere, and Hall stated that "we haven’t talked about or thought about any sequels" back then. Hall did tease his interest in a Big Hero 6 sequel saying, "the thought of working with them again some day definitely has its appeal." He went on to note Disney's of not mandating a sequel.
The most recent update on a Big Hero 6 sequel from Don Hall, though, was not all that encouraging. Back in 2022 as he finished work on Strange World for Walt Disney Animation, he told ComicBook that "there's been no discussions about that" when asked about the sequel's status. Hall made it clear that his mind was completely focused on Strange World recently and that he was ready to take a break. His next movie has still yet to be revealed, but Conli's comments make it seem that there is no secret work being done on Big Hero 6's sequel.
Don Hall's Sequel Track Record Makes Big Hero 6's Sequel Unlikely
He's Never Made A Sequel Movie
Don Hall might be open to making a Big Hero 6 sequel on some level, but he has never shown any interest in actually making sequels. Following the film's success, Hall's career continued by directing Moana, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Strange World. While Moana 2 is now happening, Hall is not involved in the movie, which was originally meant to be a Disney+ series. He also is not developing sequels to Raya and the Last Dragon or Strange World. The lack of sequels on his resume indicates that Don Hall prefers new stories over returning to familiar characters.
If that is the case, then Big Hero 6's sequel is not likely to happen. It would take Don Hall completely reversing his typical mode of operation and agreeing to bring Hiro, Baymax, and others back for another story. Considering he already returned to the Big Hero 6 world with the Baymax! Disney+ shorts, Hall could be all done with the franchise. The only hope is that working with those characters again in a shorter fashion helped reignite interest in continuing Big Hero 6's franchise.
