It turns out that it didn't take much convincing to bring Meryl Streep on board for fans were craving more.
Even if this season is just as successful as its predecessor, it's unlikely the addition of another incredibly famous face, Meryl Streep.
In an interview with THR, Streep gushed about the series and her excitement for it. Turns out, Streep didn't need any convincing before g on. She explained that her agent said, "There's a part they wrote for you in mind because they called her Mary Louise," which happens to be Meryl's legal name. She immediately responded saying, "Yeah, I'll do it," and when her agent asked if she wanted to read it, she said, "No." She went on to explain that the show was the, "greatest thing on TV." But it was Big Little Lies' author, Liane Moriarty, who could hardly contain her excitement about bringing Streep on board. The writer, who originally wasn't interested in writing a second season, wrote the role specifically for Streep, exclaiming that once she brought this new character in, "the storylines just emerged."
Big Little Lies season 2 will continue on from the events of the first season, following the newly labeled Monterey Five as they struggle to keep their biggest lie a secret. Streep's character will be playing the mother of Celeste's now-deceased husband, Perry. Her character is destined to be one to stir the pot amongst the series' leading ladies as she tries to uncover the unbearable truth surrounding her son's death.
Big Little Lies will have a high bar to clear for their second season, but it's already gearing up to be something incredible. Streep's addition is just another strong casting choice in an already unbelievable line-up. With Kelley returning to script the series, and American Honey director Andrea Arnold taking the helm for its seven-episode run, it's guaranteed to be keen viewing for HBO subscribers that might be looking to fill the Game of Thrones-sized hole in their hearts.
Big Little Lies season 2 premieres Sunday, June 9 on HBO.
