Bioshock-like game was close to being done, it may not even have a title yet. The game has been in development since 2014, and the team at Ghost Story Games has been tight-lipped about what it’s got coming. If the lack of a title is any indication, that silence may continue for some time yet.

Ken Levine, head of Irrational Games and creator of the Bioshock series, turned Irrational Games into Ghost Story Games in early 2017 after he departed Bioshock to make smaller games that allowed for more creative freedom. While the studio is still under the Take-Two Interactive umbrella, its team size has been reduced and it is working on a new game of Levine’s own design. He has said that the game will be an open-world FPS, but beyond that very little is known about the game. With four years of development and not all that much to show for it—at least publicly—Ghost Story Games remains a mystery. Meanwhile, job listings point to continued development on Bioshock 4 by a new studio, Cloud Chamber.

A new report from leaks suggest that Bioshock 4 is coming this year, likely well ahead of the series creator’s next project.

The article goes into much more detail about the game’s journey to completion, with current and former employees citing “numerous reboots and changes in direction” to for the lack of info available about the game. Levine, as the head of Ghost Story Games, has a level of creative freedom that is the dream of many creators, but it may be that freedom that is holding up production of the game as Levine remains unsure about what he wants. At the time of writing, half of the original Ghost Story Games team has left the company, while those who remain are hard at work on whatever the game ultimately ends up being.

As Bioshock tries to tread new ground by moving to an open-world setting, its creator is also trying to find new frontiers with his next game. But without a title, and Bioshock 4 still possibly years from release, it’s up in the air whether Ghost Story Games will deliver on Levine’s vision—and if so, when.
