New in an earlier version of The Suicide Squad. But considering the former WWE superstar's massive star power, DC and Warner Bros. spun his character off into a solo film set in the modern-day. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam was originally slated for a release in December 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film has been delayed until July 29, 2022.
Although plot details on Black Adam are slim, the movie has managed to create a lot of buzz due to the stellar talent it boasts. Actors such as Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer, and Uli Latukefu are all set to appear in important roles in the film. But most importantly, Black Adam features the live-action of the DC Comics team, The Justice Society of America (JSA). The JSA roster includes Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher; Trinkets' actor Quintessa Swindell is also one of the key . She is playing Cyclone, Red Tornado's grandaughter who manipulates winds and sounds.
Now, the new promotional trailer for the DC FanDome has offered the first glimpse at Swindell's Cyclone, as well as another look at Johnson's Adam. The 60-second trailer, which was released yesterday by DC, included some BTS shots from Black Adam. One of them was a blue-hued clip that saw Johnson pose as the leading Egyptian antihero, while another was a blurry footage from the movie's sets, showcasing a glance at Swindell's superhero. The footage featuring Swindell didn't reveal much, although it did provide a grainy idea of what her Cyclone costume would look like in the movie. Take a look at the BTS screencaps showing Johnson and Swindell below.
As far as the costumes and superpowers are concerned, previous set images have seemed to indicate that Black Adam is hewing pretty close to the comics. Recently, some leaked photos, which had emerged from the location of the movie, showed Johnson's superhero costume and Hodge's Hawkman armor and helmet. The entire wardrobe was quite comics-accurate, and even their finest details, such as the size of the wings on Hawkman's helmet, drew inspiration from the appearance of the characters' comics counterparts. A certain picture even displayed the Thanagarian Star Cruiser, a spaceship that Hawkman uses to travel between galaxies. This means that the supernatural abilities that the characters possessed in the comics will also be translated on-screen in Black Adam.
The new glimpses may not be of the best quality, yet they point toward the arrival of substantial Black Adam material at the DC FanDome, which will take place on October 16, 2021. When the event was held last year, it unveiled a bunch of information and artwork from the movie, so there is no reason to believe that it wouldn't be the case this year too, especially when every key member from the film's cast, including Johnson, Hodge, Swindell, Brosnan, and Centineo will be in attendance. Still, fans will need to wait until the day of the event to find out more, until then they can continue to savor the consistent barrage of updates, in the form of set photos and teasers from Black Adam.
